You can get compression stockings, bit like flight socks but better, ask you mw about them as you need to be referred to have them fitted. Google about it as well as their are certain yoga moves that can help, and doing pelvic floor exercises help as well. Pretty much though what i've been told/found out is that you can't make them better you can only stop them getting worse. The only thing to make them better is surgery -------------

yep agree with cuppatea, only thing that makes them better is surgery but you can help limit them by the above suggestions.
I have them in one leg too and they got seriously worse while pregnant. have been advised to wait til after I have had all my children before getting them fixed though as they can come back each pregnancy. apparently it is a simple op but can be quite painful. ------------- http://lilypie.com">  http://lilypie.com">

NCOOGS did you have any luck with finding treatment?
I am in medical compression stockings (thankfully only knee high) since yesterday, I earned some varicose veins with my first child in 2009, and now pregnant with my second I have a couple that are very painful when I stand up after lying down for awhile (ie first thing in the morning). Here's hoping they help! Just found a company in my city that do varicose vein removal, non -surgical, I guess they can only do that if the veins are not too bad. I will be devinitely be having them fixed after we've finished having all our babies :-) ------------- #2 expected early Sep 2011! |

Hey, i can offer some advise on this. I have had a motorbike accident years ago and developed vericose veins in my left leg. I was granted by ACC to have steriod treatment on it.(my specialist later told my that ACC had made a mistake as it is considered cosmetic treatment, which is dumb because it was the result of an accident, but oh well). I had streiods injected to the leg and wore compression stockings for i think 4 weeks.the streiods close of the veins it has been injected in. It worked great!!It has flared up during my last pregnancy so after family is completed I will be looking at *fixing* it.but nowever nere as bad or painful as it was before treatment.

A little off topic but my mum managed to somehow 'erase' one of her biggest varicose veins on her leg from a 5 hour horse trek! docter said it was the best piece of home surgery he had seen! I guess she burst it somehow..

ok, warning as pos TMI......but, I developed a real painful one in my Vulva last pregnancy and the only thing that helped a bit was my amazing midwife giving me acupuncture for it, still was there tho and not comfy. So now I am preg again and dreading it!! New MW now, as the other is also UTD. I did some research tho and found out that the blood flow can be restricted by an uneven pelvis so am making sure I have LOTS of work done on adjusting my pelvis this time. i have the same deal with #4 in one leg, but i *think* they are hereditary, as Mum has had them - she also had them removed, which was ok for a while, but she said now new ones are coming through. fingers crossed mine don't get worse  -------------
