up to $50 from pharmacys can get it free from the hospital sexual health clinics. I'm sure family planning would do it cheaper then $50 but don't quote me!

$3, I imagine, I'm sure it's subsidised.

ETA I was wrong... a google suggests $35, so Bowie is probably closer to the mark.

Yep. Thats right! But after all the stupid panic buying people did down here, we have no money left from having to buy the expensive brands of things. Oh and on a side note just in case anyone is thinking it - it was a fail condom, not us being stupid. I actually rang ansell this morning to complain (we've had 5 from the box fail) and you know what they said? they had the nerve to tell me that we must be using them wrong! Couldnt believe it.

How can you use a condom wrong? I don't actually want an answer... but I thought it was pretty much a one-way-to-do-it thing...

There is a wrong way to do them, I think it's in the instructions. Something to do with air being trapped inside I think??
Would the ECP be subsidised if you got a prescription for it? Is that possible?

In Palmy (and some other places) it's free if you are under 25 I think? I don't know if you are though! Not sure how much it costs if you are older, sorry.

Its $28 if you're over (im 31).
Got sorted yesterday... $37!!!! couldn't believe it. I asked the pharmacy if I could come in and pay on pay day, but they said no. Ended up borrowing money for it. I was so embarrased. Stink @ the pharmacy however.. That would have been a very unwanted pregnancy.

Glad you got it sorted here too!

At our pharmacy there is a big sign saying if you've come in for the ECP you need to ring first to make sure their pharmacist that deals with it is there.

Luckily haven't had to use it but DP said that there isn't meant to be air at the top of the condom so no air when putting it on and also if you are dry... We use condoms here too on occasion but am on Depo now.

you can get it free if you go to A&E i think, but who would!?

If it were cheaper people would have even more unsafe sex (not aimed at anyone here, i know accidents happen) but some folk would use it as first call not last if that makes sense. But agree its ridiculously expensive, esp for really young teens who won't have jobs and have to ask mom and dad for money! Awkward...

Actually that's a good point Bowie! Though, isn't it funded for umm under 25's like most things? My GP told me all sexual health related consults are free for under 25 including prescriptions, etc? Or would that be just my clinic maybe?

I used to go to Family Planning and it was free for under 22s. I didn't get the ECP a lot though, just once for a broken condom soon after DH and I got together, and once when some horrible army guy (who I didn't know, and about a year before I met DH) decided that he was so important he could take what he wanted from whoever he wanted whether they wanted to or not bast*rd...

Anyway, I agree it's a good point that people could just use the ECP as contraception if it were freely available. Some guy at my old workplace claimed he kept boxes of ECP in his bedside drawer not sure if that was true or he was just trying to look "cool" but gez some people are creeps

i'm lead to beleive that men cant buy the ECP as they cant take it themselves and you have to answer questions to the dr/pharmacist and sign for it

Yea, that's cool. Not!

And yea, I think he'd have to get a lady to get it for him, chances are it was a tall story, what a creep!

ETA that I've taken it twice - once when I forgot my BCP, and once when I was on anti-bs and hadn't realised they could affect the BCP. And I just realised that when I was on anti-b's, DH went to get the morning after pill for me, because I'd had my wisdom teeth out that morning. So they obviously gave it to him (but I think he went to the Dr, who knows us, so that might be different).

And after having taken so long to conceive Jacob, I wish I hadn't wasted the money! Either time a baby wouldn't have been in the plan, but looking back it would have been a good thing if it had happened!
