I have had a look online and searched on here and I dont think I have mastitis but there is something up with one of my boobs...

What makes me think it is not mastitis is there is no hard lumps/blocked ducts, that I can feel - and Ive been having a pretty good feel!! Also no flu like symptoms either.

There is a red mark on the edge of the areola about the size of a fifty cent coin, there is also two red lines going into it, looking like they are following a road map! The red mark is sore to touch and has the odd sore pain.

DD has started latching wrong and it is a constant battle to get her to do so properly, so that may have something to do with it... The red patch doesnt hurt while breastfeeding...

Any advice?
TIA

ETA - I just googled pics of mastitis and it looks nothing like any of those...

I ended up seeing a Breast Physician last year to to continuous lumps. I was told that if there is no fever then it is not mastitis as there is no infection. I had similar lumps, red spots and red lines, I was told it is engorgement.

Massage the lump as often as you can going from the outside towards the nipple. If at all possible position your DD so that her chin is on the red spot when she bfs, that way her chin movement will help massage the lump out. Massage in the shower or put a warm flannel on the lump before trying to massage it.

500mg or 1000mg Vit C is good to take to prevent infection

It sounds like the start of a breast infection to me. Keep a close eye on it overnight, and go to the dr in the morning.

Yep, sounds like a cellulitis infection to me. Especially with the tracking. Definately see a doctor tomorrow if its still there. Is it hot to touch?

it could be a blocked duct, I had the same symptoms as you have. Blocked ducts can progress to mastitis if not cleared. Keep massaging it and apply heat, also I wrapped my boob in cold cabbage leaves on the advice of my midwife, and that's what seemed to clear it in the end.

Yeah - agree on the possible blocked duct.

I had mastitis early on - fever, shakes, etc - and my midwife told me to look out for red spots -- she told me to check my boobs out in the mirror each day -- you'll often see the spots before you feel lumps, etc.

Another tip she said about the massage was (if possible) to do it while breastfeeding on that side -- the combination will help clear a blockage.
