Asking on behalf of a friend.
Her son has just cut his first tooth with another coming close behind. He already bites with his gums and pulls back, thinks its funny so she is thinking she will have to wean him when the tooth is properly through. She said she's tried showing pain, screaming (thinking the fright might put him off) and showing no reaction at all, well as much of no reaction as you can with a baby biting!
Any other throughts?
She doesnt want to quit b/feeding and it would make her wee man very unhappy as he's a boob boy!

I had the same issues and I thought it'd never pass. Infact he still occasionally bites (with 4 teeth! ) it's very common for them to bite while teething!
After hearing lots of the same advise which was take baby off put him on the floor and say no biting etc etc etc never worked for me the only thing that did was wait it out, he bit every single feed for about 3-4 weeks and now will bite only once a day if that.
Sorry I'm no real help, but is all that worked for me..
Ignore it, take him off and wait..
Big hugs to your friend x

I've heard that taking them off the breast and putting them on the floor when they bite works - taking boob away completely.
DS was gumming me a lot a couple of weeks ago and I used that method...as well and saying in a very stern voice 'no biting'. He hasn't bitten me for ages (touch wood) which is a good thing as he's got 2 teeth now!!
ETA: I'm not looking forward to my first bite with teeth!!

I did the taking her off and putting her on the floor. Then mean as it sounds she just wouldn't get the feed until 5 or 10 mins later no matter how much she made a fuss.
I found it did work, but only if they are biting during the beginning or middle of the feed. If they are biting at the end cause they are bored, well as soon as they stop actively sucking, take em off quick smart.

Oh, and the other thing I read is that they can only bite if they relax the latch and slide back off the boob a bit...
My sister used to smoosh her DS's face into her boob if he bit her and that seemed to work for them.

Yeah DD bites when she is getting teeth she has 8 now and it hurts, but its for a good cause- usually at the end of the feed or right at the start if my milk is taking ages. I would get her to express a bit to make sure her let down is right there, and to make sure he has a good deep latch as it makes it harder for them to bite. If he bites at the end of the feed, make sure she is watching them, DD gets this 'thinking' look and I know to get out of there quick smart!

DD did the same. We only stopped BFing 2weeks ago and she has 6 teeth and has done since she was about 8 months old. She started biting as soon as her first teeth came through at 6 months but I would put her on the floor and not give boob for 10mins and just ignore her basically and it seemed to work. She'd still do it every now and again but certainly not as much.

I had biting/nipping from DS and while it hurt and it was a PITA it is a phase and they do stop. When I finished BF'ing at 15 months Jackson had all his teeth
When he did bite I just said 'ouch' really loudly so he understood it was hurting me and he would generally stop.

I yell ouch - my girl has just cut her 8th tooth and it really hurts when she does bite, but she is learning - will pull off straight away and cry if she gets a fright, but I havent been bitten for a few days now
Her first teeth came thorugh at 4 months and it did take her a little while to react to my obvious pain!
