Spatone isn't actually that high in iron but it is more easily absorbed. Try online pharmacy/health shops cause I found that cheaper than in store. It just tastes like rusty water.
Floradix I think has more iron in it than spatone.
You should try and eat more foods with iron in it. Just google. Little bits here and there will add up over the day.
I'm a vego so I've tried most iron supplements on the market

Oh and if your iron doesn't increase ask about getting an iron jab. That will fix it.

Thanks Kebakat. I have started eating a heap more iron rich foods, and i feel a bit better but thought i would give something else a go to. Will look in to Floradix also.

How often are you getting your iron checked? Mine was 11 at 28wks and I haven't had it retested since then. I just noticed too that the iron tablets I'm taking (not the ones my mw recommended because I couldn't find those) say they are not for iron deficiency d'oh!

When I was pregnant with my daugher I was taking that stuff and at 36 weeks my iron was sooo low, my HB was at 80 it should be 120 odd when pregnant and I had next to nothing stores! I was actually quite sick, the spatone did nothing. I ended up being admitted and having an iron infusion(nasty thing to have done).
The hospital told me that spatone is ok if your iron levels are already good, its great for maintaining levels but not good if you have low iron, especially when pregnant.
I have major iron issues when preggers and like Kebaket said, Floradix is a lot better than spatone Its great for iron and other vits.

Ahh interesting, thanks for that Sheza. I bloody hope i dont end up having and iron infusion, sounds horrid.
I will admit i wasnt taking the tablets everyday, because of the silly side affects, but am making sure i am now, will def look in to the Floradix.
Rachel, im not sure when i will be getting checked again. Hopefully not for a while. Depends if my midwife thinks i look crap again or not! For now 10 min arvo naps in the car at work are doing me wonders!

When I was pregnant with DD my mum's friend who is a retired MW brought me a bottle of Floradix. Apprently in the older days midwifes gave every pregnant woman a bottle of the stuff as its so good for you.
It tastes pretty horrible though especially in the first trimester but I see they now have tablets so I might try those this time!

i have been having spatone every day and i really notice an energy difference if i haven't taken it - and yes tastes like rusty water so somedays I put it in a glass of juice - online pharmacies are best and cheapest to purchase
have tried most of the iron tablets and they irritate my system so wanted to avoid them
have tried floradix however it never helped my iron levels
remember when taking iron suppliments to take it at a different time to other suppliments as they can block each other ... also if you are low in iron then you need to take folic acid and vit c as if you don't have enough of those you won't absorb the iron - especially important when trying to get it from food!

Spatone is great. I would definitely recommend it. Although it has less iron than most tablets or floradix the amount of iron actually absorbed is far greater than the others.
If you take it in a small glass of orange juice you can't taste it and the vitamin c helps the absorption. Remember not to drink tea, caffeine or have any dairy product for about forty five minutes before and after taking any iron supplement as it decreases the absorption greatly.
The best thing about spatone is it is very gentle on your stomach and doesn't have the horrible side effects like other supplements. And safe to use when pregnant.
I've used it when my ferritn was very low and it increased my iron levels to those within the normal range pretty quickly.
