I am hoping someone can help me?
Quinn and I are off to the docs in fifteen minutes, he has eczema. Almost constantly has a goosebumps like rash all over his body, lately it has really been agitating him and he scratches and draws blood. We have been to the docs several times, first off we got aqueous cream, then we got more aqueous cream and was told to use it more. Then on our last trip we got emulsifying cream to use. Now he has broken out in more of a rash. Nothing seems to be working, and I am getting really frustrated with being told to use the same stuff more often by the doctor! Can anyone suggest another remedy that I could spec request from the doc cause if he tells me again to use more of the same cream I am going to throw a preggy tanty!! ------------- Anna http://lilypie.com">

Hydroquizone(sp?) it is a steroid but it works really well and pinetarsinal (sp?) yellow stuff for his bath. ------------- I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived! |

Went to the doc and he prescribed some hydrocortisone and some other cream! We have just swapped docs and it is SOOOO nice to go to a doctor that listens and explains things fully! It was nice to not be told to keep using the same stuff more!! AND instead of paying $15 it was FREE!! EVEN BETTER! ------------- Anna http://lilypie.com">

Hydrocortisone works wonders. I try to avoid using it where I can because it isn't so good for long term use, but when Maya has a big break out it clears it up really quickly. -------------  Maya Grace (28/02/03)

I have heard that is isn't so good for the skin but the doc assured me that I would have to be using it heavily for a long time for it to be any risk. Here's hoping it works cause at the moment he is waking in the middle of the night every night clawing at his skin and making himself bleed!!
Jax - used to go to Angela (sunset road) who is fantastic but then they bumped the price up to $15 which i thought was a tad unreasonable considering they are already fully subsidised for under fives! I always found her great tho, but the last doc I saw was the one here in greenhithe (cause it is close and I wasbeing lazy) but he is def not me preferred doctor! And every time I go his receptionist hassles to sign up with PHO with them! It is frustrating.... from greenhithe, if I go left to the shore I get charged for under fives whereas if I go right to west harbour it is free. ------------- Anna http://lilypie.com">

poor quinn!!
we use lemnis fatty cream on jack with AQ cream as a soap and hydrocortisone for outbreaks. the lemnis is a really greasy moisturiser but it works really well, i use it myself also. if we keep him moisturised all the time it seems to keep his scratching under control. my mum would always put mittens on me when i was a baby and then moved onto tying socks on my hands as i got older because i was always scratching til i was raw. i still wake up occasionally now and i'm scratching

Anna, Han has just got really bad eczema too.
I think hers is related to the change of season, coupled with crap washing powder and increased use of soap. I've started using oil in her bath (QV Flare up - specifically for Atopic Eczema [the one that is a reaction to irritants, not food allergies]) as well as making sure she is moisturised ALL day (using either aqueous cream or emulsifying ointment). I am also giving her Flaxseed Oil, which I have heard is a wonder cure. She isn't itching as much, and while it isn't gone, it is under control (I was really hoping it'd disappear!!!) but at least she isn't waking up covered in blood anymore. A friend with a child who has had a body full of eczema since he was quite young said the only way to keep the itching at bay is to make sure it is moisturised always. |

| Try dressing Quinn in cotton clothes as much as possible. Stay away from clothes that are scratchy etc. |
