Ben just can't seem to stay awake on the boob!
I talk to him, pat him, play with his hands, feet, ears.
Take off his clothes, move him around, stop to burp.
Nothing seems to work!
I feed him after he wakes, so he's not worn out...
Its getting a bit frustrating as he will nod off for 15-30 mins and then wake wanting to feed again, and often will nod off again during that!
I've asked plunket and midwife about it but they didn't have a lot of advice.
Help Please!!

We used to do this when I was still b/f Erin and still do it now if she is too sleepy on the bottle. Get a facecloth and run it under cold water until it's as cold as you can get it - then touch it to his face until he wakes up. Guaranteed he won't like it, but it might just give him enough motivation to keep feeding and finish properly.

i was watching that jude dobson hosted show zero to five i think it was called - and they are doing babies... anyway they were talking about how the palm of the hand is related to a babies suck reflex. the more you stimulate the hand, ie stroking it firmly, the more it will help to improve their suck reflex.
i had heard they were linked but was good to get some more evidence.
i used to stroke gabriels nose and that would always wake him up.

i've also heard that about the palm of the hand. when mikey was little he always used to hold onto my thumb while he fed, i don't know if it made a difference but he waqs always a good feeder.
