We're going to be in Auckland Friday - Sunday with our 2yr old and im trying to find things to do on Easter Friday and Sunday (when im assuming all the shops will be closed) that dont cost a fortune.
We're going to Butterfly Creek and the Wiggles on Saturday so dont want to go to the zoo as well and Kelly Tarltons will be too expensive. Can anyone help with ideas? We're staying in Parnell
Thanks!

There is a great park down at orakei, along tamaki drive....or head to Western Springs to the park and feed the ducks. The museum often has great kids stuff on during school hols too...easy walk from parnell!

There is a great playpark at the zoo end of Western Springs too. The geese down there can get a bit "keen" sometimes, but am sure you will be fine!

There are ducks in the domain too, just down from the museum in the ponds near the Winter Garden glass houses.

Have you thought about going to Devonport? The ferry ride could be a fun thing to do :) I'm not sure how much it is though. The Western Springs idea is great and not too far down the road at Pt Chevalier, they have re done their playground (right at the end of Pt Chev road).

The ferry to Devonport is pretty cheap and only 8 mins each way. There is a good playground right there and lots of nice cafes, some with kids areas. We just did this with our playgroup, caught train and then ferry. The ride was the fun bit! $15 for all day travel (train and ferry) for adults and kids were free.

Mission Bay playground is awesome and lots of places for icecream/takeaways.

There are cool things to do just in queen st, my 3 yo just found being there interesting and all the squares have sculptures to climb, big open spaces to chase the pigeons. Maybe the Sky tower?

Dare i suggest the Easter Show? I found it too much with the crowds a few years ago but the boy i took loved the wood chopping.

Out past Butterfly Creek there is a place you can park up and watch the planes land.

I found a list of all Auckland http://www.aucklandcity.govt.nz/whatson/places/playgrounds/default.asp - playgrounds today. It gives a good description of each one, age, size of playground.

We're up there next week so doing my own research

The only problem with that list Tishy is that it doesnt tell you what sort of "neighbourhood" the playground is in. Sorry if that sounds snobby, but there are certain playgrounds we just wouldnt go to up here because of the teenagers that hang out there or the cr*p everywhere in the playground.
