Hi, hope that someone can offer some advice.... DD saw her GP this week and she looked at her belly button and noticed it was still a bit weepy. She used silver nitrate inside it (applied with a long stick thingy) and she said that would just cauterise it. However she now has an area of staining around her belly button that is grey and about the size of an old fifty cent piece. I am not very happy and my GP said "it should fade in a few weeks"......should?!?!?!?!!?!? Has anyone else experienced this and does it fade?

We had DD's belly button done with silver nitrate at her 6wk imms because of an umbilical granuloma. The doc said it may need another treatment at her 3mth imms but its healed so well it looks like she won't need that now.

Anyway, the silver/grey staining was was only inside of the belly button area, but it faded over 2-3 weeks and DD's belly button is now completely flesh coloured again. While it was fading I noticed tiny flecks of silver colour in her bath after I'd drained it. 50c size sounds quite large though, hope it all heals up nicely for you.

i had my daughters done twice. i think the should is more of a 'it should fade in a few weeks, if not soon after' type thing. the size of the staining just depends on how much clothing etc rubbed and spread the silver nitrate. it will fade.
