Hi everyone, Congratulations if you are expecting. We are still waiting for the blood test result, but by the two home tests, it looks like we are expecting! Very exciting. Found a due date calendar on line ... 1 January 2012 - oh oh!! Decided to google another due date calendar to see if we got a different date - nope - 1 January 2012!! Ekkk!!! Looks like we will be having a very different New Year from what normally have. Very exciting!!! Now we just have to wait to hear from the dr ....

Hello Ladies,

Rosie waves shyly - we found out on Wednesday that our IVF cycle worked, and by my calculations we are due 4 Jan. Will have to wait and see what Drs say, cause when we started going down this path they said I would probably have to have a C-section due to a op I had a couple of years ago. So that bring me forward into Dec.

Congrats to all of us expecting.

Congratulations everyone

I'm Tanya and we are expecting bubby no. 2 on the 8th Jan (we have a DS who will be 2 on 22 June)!  We are so excited and hope this bubba stays safe till it's due date (I had a missed mc in Feb).  I have a good feeling already about this one as I have been feeling slightly queasy for the last two weeks

I'll try to find a nice pretty sparkly heading so we can create a EDD list and add our due date etc.

Here's to a happy and healthy next 8 months

Yay for having a scan date sorted Rosiefarmer   (I must have too much time on my hands as I've just created a scan date for us too, hehe).  I've added your scan date.  Its so so so so exciting hearing bubby's heartbeat and seeing bubs for the first time!

How is everyone feeling so far?  Hopefully ms hasn't kicked in for you yet?  I've got 'evening sickness'  not sure why it waits till dinner time to come on!!  With DS it didn't kick in until 6weeks and really was in the morning!!!!

Hi ladies, wow due date buddy - Hi Sharlene.

I was going to change the list, but will leave it to some more experienced.

This is baby No 2 for me, my 1st DS turns 18 in September. LOL a 18 yr gap.

Dont think MS really kicked in too much, when I feel hungry have to eat something straight away or I feel sick, and feeling really tired too.

Hi
I am new to this forum (but not new to online parenting forums ) thought I would give ohbaby a go for this pregnancy.
We have just found out we are expecting baby number four - we already have 3 1/2 year old triplet girls so we're pretty excited to be having another.
My EDD is currently at 6th of Jan 2012 but that may change as we weren't TTC so I guess we'll see - I will try to book an early scan at around 7weeks to see the baby's heartbeat.

Looking forward to getting to know you all over the next few months and beyond.

Shelly

Hey All,

Just found out today that I'm pregnant, could be anywhere upto 9 weeks gone...was a bit of a shock to me and my partner as I have been on contraception and wasn't expecting it at all.

Still some decisions for us to make but I would be more than happy to keep it despite the ALL DAY sickness

I have a dating scan next Tuesday (10/05/11) so will find out dates then, but looks like it will be between Dec 2011 and Jan 2012, hoping for Jan, more time to plan

Good luck to everyone else, looking forward to hearing all goss and advice

Opps sorry Rosie, I'll update the list

I went for my first lot of antenatal bloods and hcg's today (I'll have 2 more follow up hcg's to make sure the numbers are increasings as they should).

How has everyone's day been? I got my first dose of fatigue today. Spent the morning with Seth at playcentre then did a couple of errands and got home around 1pm incredibly tired. Guess it's going to be a lot different this time round having a toddler to look after :) think I may have evening sickness. Just slight nausea but I pretty much had none with Seth so not sure if it is or not.

Got some Ellivit at the chemist...way too expensive. I've been told that as long as I get a prescription for folic acid supplements from my doctor it's ok just to use Blackmores Pregnancy Gold etc so much cheaper! I got a box of Ellivit anyway. Not sure when I can get to the doc. Hope everyone has a lovely day tomorrow :)

Hi Sharlene,

I was sooo tired yesterday I was in bed AND asleep by 9.30!
I can't imagine what it would be like looking after a little one too, I had a half day at work!
I am feeling sick all day but am yet to actually be sick (thank goodness).
Good luck today and hope the sickness holds off for you. It's not even 7am and I'm already dreading having to eat :(

oh and yes, we paid $92 for elevit...and it's only for 3 months!!! Grrr

Morning,
Sharlene, I am the same just feeling even more tired then usual so far.
Elevit is stupidly expensive. I went to my doc yesterday and told him of my positive pregnany test and he gave me a script for folic acid which cost me $3 to fill.
I will be going for some antenatal bloods today once I drop the girls at kindy.
Jacobsmummy - Yes they were hard work as newborns but we had LOTS of help from family, friends and we also trialed a nanny for a couple of months but it didn't work out. I had my mum live here til they were 8months old! But now I just don't know any different, we have a very cruisy routine that works for us all and it only took us 3yrs! now we're going to throw it all out by adding another baby in to the mix!

Hope everyone has a lovely day,
catch you all tonigt

Shelly

Hi all!
1st time mumma, Seth is a really cruisey boy thank goodness so its not too hard, that's at the moment though. When I eventually have to ask DH to do more things around the house that's going to be annoying. He's very supportive but I'm just used to doing everything my own way I guess!

Minti, I woke up feeling very refreshed this morning which is nice considering I am getting the worst sleeps ever at the moment! I've had to reduce my coffee intake drastically, I've gone from having four cups of instant before becoming pregnant, to one in the space of two days. I could have gone cold turkey but a massive headache didn't sound all that appealing!

I have my first appointment with my MW on the 13th, I'm actually really excited to see her again as she was my mw with Seth. She was so lovely and has agreed to be my mw even though we live in a different zone now which is so great!

The weather could be a bit nicer but oh well, the fire is on :P

Hi ladies

Boo to fatigue and ms!  But I guess both are reassuring and means bubs is growing nicely

OH gosh don't buy Elevit from pharmacy's, buy online if you really want it.  I purchased a pack of 100's back in Dec online and saved over $20 off what they sell for in the shops!  Delivery took about 3 days too from NZ.  I just googled elevit and looked at the diff websites and went with the cheapest

I'm impatiently waiting to call my Dr's this morning to get the results from my hcg yesterday (Labtests said they'd be ready in the morning).  I'm really hoping they're within the 'normal' range.

Rosie I forgot to mention yesterday (yup preggy brain must be kicking in), that's a nice big age gap, means you'll only have one bub to look after really  oh and at least you'll potentially have lots of babysitting on hand, hehe.

Jacobsmumma - hehe, at baby brain - my SIL's are having a entertaining time, listening and watching me do baby brain stuff. I didnt notice it till they said something. One was milking for me, after our transfer, and when we told her our positive news, she reckoned it had worked this time, as I had misplaced something I use everyday, and a couple of other things - ohhh hahaha, pleased someone thinks it funny. I keep banging into stuff with my feet too.

My DS doesnt live with me - he is in the big wide world of Dunedin at polytech, but was so stoked when I told him our news. But his 1st question was "when do we find out if its twins?", eeekkk. Told him if that happens he will have to come and visit his mum more often .

That's awesome news KarenMae, and well within the guidelines I found online  I've got my follow up hcg on Friday (Doc said she'll be working Sat so I can get the results) then the final one on Monday.  FX we both have good rises xx

OMG chance of twins, wowsers.  Did they transfer two fertilised eggs Rosie?  (of course you don't need to answer if you think I'm being too nosey).  What were yourr first hcg results?  Did they seem really high, could indicate twinnies

Yeah - I'm pretty stoked with the numbers!!!

Doctor put me on progesterone yesterday as well, plus for the last month I've been on baby asprin, so hopefully that helps the little one stick!!!

Now it's just a waiting game again.....

I've decided to go with a specialist for my pregnancy, so once the second results are in, I'm going to see my Doc again for more HCG BT forms (am ideally wanting to do one every 2-3 days until 7 weeks due to my history). DR also mentioned that she wants to put me on Iodine, and then I'll call the specialist and make my first appt...

They only put one embie in . But we have lots of twins on both sides of our families. My HCG's were 70 1st time and 372 2nd time (so not too high), nurses are happy with that, and dont need to do any more and I am allowed to reduce my progesterone pessaries this week, and stop them next week.

KarenMae your HCG's sound good.

As my doctor took GREAT pains to tell me.... it's not what the number is... it's how it increases, and if the nurses are happy.... then yay!!!!

Yeah my mw also said its not what the numbers are now, its how much they increase.  I'd like to think that cause this lot is higher than it was with DS, that its a good sign.

Why do you need to take progesterone KM and Rosie?  Sorry I'm not very clued up

KM, yup I had very very dull slight cramps but they have gone now.  I remember having these with DS and my mw said it was normal.  I didn't have them last pg tho (again I'm prob just looking for good signs ).  This pregnancy feels so much different to my last so that has to be good right?

My doc gave me a scan form and said to go ahead and book a dating scan after the 15th.  That would put me around 6weeks or just over.  I'm kinda thinking maybe I should wait a week just incase.

Definately agree it's a good sign - better to be higher than lower

Progesterone is because of the recurrent miscarriages... sometimes the cause of miscarriages is that your progesterone level drops too soon, or stays low.... low progesterone causes spotting and also brings on your AF.... so it COULD be in my case that the two I lost were perfectly fine, but my body just had a normal period due to low progesterone, so I lost them... but it's not always the case, but we are at least crossing that off the list!!! Progesterone also maintains the quality of the uterus lining and keeps it nice and healthy. I take the asprin to thin my blood thereby making implantation easier for the egg.

I have had dull slight cramps, but they come and go - don't think I've had any at all today.... have had a couple of times where it felt like OV pains - like someone poking me, but that has stopped also.... maybe after losing two I just become hypersensitive to any 'feelings'.

Glad this one feels different - I definately think that's a good sign!!!

Personally I think I would wait till 7 weeks for the scan, as they you are almost guaranteed to see the heartbeat.... at 6 you still might though!!!! Up to you....

Also BecsandMonkey in Due December thread had a 6w2d scan and saw heartbeat, but it was only 108bpm. That is low. But she had another at 7w0d and it was 140bpm. Perfect. Could be low as it was very early....

Just be prepared if you have the scan at 6 weeks that you might not see a heartbeat (and don't freak if you don't) or it might be slow (but is probably just winding up)

I want a scan every week!!!!! That would be nice

Edited for spelling

Ahh, I see.  Thanks for explaining it for me.  I had also wondered what baby asprin did too

I think the cramps are ok as long as they are not really painful.  I remember mentioning to my mw about still feeling AF cramps and she assured me it was fine, and it was as I have DS to show for it.  But I know what you mean about becoming more in tune with your body tho after a mc.

Yeah good idea, I think I will wait till 7 weeks.  Will book appointment soon, very exciting

Jacobsmumma - I am on the postergene cause of my IVF cycle, with IVF you body doesnt always make it naturally and like Karen said, it keeps the uterus in great condition, and you have to keep using them till your levels rise. Well thats my take on it, all the reading up I have done.

I had my first lot of blood tests today, they are going to test weekly - do you think this sounds ok, or should I be asking for more??? Want to try and do everything right this time!!

I have also had some light crampy feelings - hoping thats normal too! Got a bit of MS today so I will take that as a good sign :)

Hi Ladies,

For those experiencing slight cramps, have a quick read of the below:

Cramping in Early Pregnancy

Many women get concerned by cramping that they experience in early pregnancy. Some might worry that this is a sign that their pregnancy is not viable and that a miscarriage is on its way. Fortunately, more times than not, that isn’t the case.

Cramping in early pregnancy is common and usually very normal

Some women might feel cramping as soon as seven days after they ovulate. If they are in fact pregnant, then this cramping is called http://www.babiesonline.com/articles/pregnancy/implantationbleeding.asp - implantation cramping and is the cramping that occurs when the egg attaches itself, or implants, to the uterus. It is not cramping that all women feel, and can be easily unnoticed.

Some women start cramping shortly after they get a positive pregnancy test as their uterus starts preparing to carry a baby for nine months. The uterus is a big organ and as it grows in early pregnancy cramping is expected. If the cramping is constant or too intense for you to handle however it may not be “normal” and you should call your doctor if you feel you need to for reassurance.

Another type of cramping during pregnancy is called http://www.babiesonline.com/articles/pregnancy/roundligamentpain.asp - round ligament pain

This is cramping that occurs as the muscles under your uterus expand and grow in order to support the weight of your uterus and baby as it grows. This is probably the most complained about cramping in early pregnancy, and one most pregnant women will experience.

Cramping in early pregnancy is usually nothing for a woman to get worried about. Actually you can be comforted by knowing that if minor cramping does occur, then your body is probably preparing as it should to sustain the pregnancy. Cramping can also continue into the second and third trimester as the uterus continues to grow and as the body prepares for labor. But if you ever feel that the cramping is not normal, be sure to call your doctor for advice.

xx

Spanna - I would push for the progesterone - I'm on 10mg morning and night and it's called Provera. It does no harm, but will help if you have a problem. If Dr questions it - say that is the amount/type that Dr Barton Matshe from Boulcott clinic suggests - he is the leading specialist in the Hutt. I take until around 12-14 weeks.

Asprin - I take the 75mg low dose that you just buy from the supermarket so you can pick it up yourself - I think it's called Heartcare - designed for daily use. Don't take a full Asprin as that will thin your blood too much.

I'm getting another HCG blood test tomorrow - it's best to get them 2-3 days apart rather than weekly. Results should double in that period (2-3days).

I'm going to ask to get them up until my first scan at around 7 weeks.

Hope this helps!!!!

Some doctors aren't up on all the fertility options, but I'm very lucky that mine is...

Thanks for that KarenMae, its really interesting to see what someone in a very similar position is doing.... I have actually just changed doctors (my previous doctor told me after the second miscarriage not to worry cos once I had kids, I wouldn't want them anyway!!) so I will make an appointment and talk to them about the progesterone and will pick up some asprin today!

Thanks for the info on cramping too Jacobsmumma, good to know these things are normal! Guess I am just a little paraniod at every little twinge this time...

Have a good day everyone!

Hi All,

Just a query for all you other expectant mothers...

We didn't plan our pregnancy so it came as a shock when we found out 2 days ago, I have been on contraceptive pill for a long time so was not expecting it.
I am really excited as I would love to be a mum, but my partner isn't sure what he thinks, it has been a bit rocky with us over the past few months but seemed to be back on track til we got the news...His doubts are fueling mine...I don't want to be a single mum but i don't want a termination either.

Can anyone give me some advice? I am 23, which I think is a good age as I have a steady job and am ready to be a mum (i think) and my partner is 40 (no previous children) he owns our home and also has a great job so I think financially we would be fine, but it seems to already be taking its toll on our relationship after only 2 days. I know my hormones are probablly affecting my decision and that men dont have these hormones so may take him longer to make his mind up.
Also, is there any help out there for daddys-to-be?

Thanks all,
Emma

Hi Emma, oh gosh what a tough situation to be in.  I can't speak from my own personal experience but I would imagine any unexpected pregnancy would take time to come to terms with, so I would try to give it some time to sink in (for both of you) before you do something you may end up regretting down the line.  Like you said its only been two days since you found out, that's not long at all to get your head around something as big as this.  At the end of the day noone else can make the decision for you and you shouldn't feel pressured by your partner either.

I'm not sure this has helped, maybe there's someone on OB that's been in the same situation that can give you some guideance?  I hope you come to the right decision soon, whatever that may be.  Goodluck hun xx

Hard to be at work while all this is on my mind, but my manager is so supportive so I'm lucky. Just hoping my partner sees the scan and falls in love

Waiting must really suck KarenMae! Hope that you get the results soon - will be thinking of you! Try and stay positive, its gotta help!

Emma - sounds like a pretty tricky spot that you are in, I would say just hold off making your decision until you are 100% sure that you are doing the right thing for you and your partner. There are loads of support groups out there for guys if he would be willing to go... ? Hopefully he will fall in love when you have the scan :)

Afternoon ladies - wow been busy here today.

Karen - hope you get your results soon and everything is ok.

Spanna - I cant believe your old Dr said that to you - pleased you changed Dr's. What a cow!!

Jacobsmum - thanks for the cramping info, I seem to get a bit during the night - I was hoping it was uterus getting all prepared etc, had read something in my week by week book.

Emma - congrats and hopefully once it all sinks in you and your DP make the right decission for you both. I gunna add my 2 cents, I am 40 at the end of this year, and I was 20 when I had my 1st. After what I have been through to get my 2nd one in a trillon chance of having a baby I would advise you to have your baby as secondary infertility is a nightmare... But at the end of the day it is your decission.

Okay, I'm going to tentatively join you ladies - I got a BFP tonight! Going to play it cautiously though, since I miscarried in early Jan this year.
Due date will be 13th January.
My name is Jen, and I'm 33, DH is 34 and we have a son, Campbell, who is 2 years old.

Emma, your partner is probably going through a completely normal reaction for men - my DH had a freak out after I got pregnant with my first, despite him being planned. They can't feel the physical things happening like we can, and I'm sure they worry about whether they are financially or emotionally ready for a baby. The best thing is for both of you to keep talking to each other. There is a great book for Dads that DH read, can't remember what its called but I'll try and find it for you.

Karen Mae that is such wonderful news!!! :D

Hi Whitewave and NewMum :)

Emma, I hope it gets better for you and you and your partner work things out. My DH and I had a few stressful arguments until he finally relaxed. He's mainly upset about being at his job forever as he's not really fond of it at all. I was planning to go to university next year and start my degree and obviously that plan has completely changed! Fx'd it stays that way, I'm rather paranoid that there aren't many hormones running around because I haven't had many symptoms apart from a little bit of nausea and fatigue, but it's early days isn't it.

Hope everyone is having a lovely morning, I am desperate to get washing dry today otherwise it is disposables for Peanut until we see sunshine!

Their number is 8020771 and they are all really lovely, and pro-natural if that's the way you want to do things (Ps, my hubby is still freaked out and wondering how we're going to cope, and I'm due next week hope yours comes around a lot sooner!)

Congratulations Newmum12 and an even bigger congrats to Whitewave - yay I'm so excited you can join us.  I've everything possible crossed for both our bubs to be sticky ones this time.  I have a really good feeling we'll be comparing bubby pics in the new year   I'll add you both to the list

Thanks Mucky_Tiger for confirming.

Thanks nzpiper, I was going to let you all know but knew the word would spread   I can't believe you guys are over 20 weeks now, so exciting!!!

KM, how are things going today for you?  Hopefully the spotting has stopped?

I had my 2nd lot of bhcg's taken this morning.  My doc is working tomoz so I'll be on the dog and bone 1st thing to get my results.  Had my first lot on Tues, so we should see a really good rise.  Then final lot on Monday thank goodness as I hate needles, they hurt!!!!

Thanks lurkers for your best wishes! I've been lurking in the Sep thread to see how all the anatomy scans have been going!

Thanks for adding me to the list, Tanya. Forgot to say we'll be finding out the sex, I'm not patient enough to wait about 40 weeks!

Tanya, are you getting hcg tests because of your miscarriage? I'm wondering if I should be doing anything extra like that, just in case. Doctors clinic was closed today, so I think I'll call on Monday to go talk to the new doc anyway.
