I am trying to find a solution to my (nearly) two year old DD constantly pulling her arms out of her straps in her Safe and Sound carseat.

I have tried all of the products on the market to prevent this, but she is able to still get her arms over them (or undo them!). I think her problem is that she is very slim (only 8kg) and the straps are too far apart for her. She is also quite the contortionist (and able to get out of any supermarket trolley etc no matter how tight you make the straps). She is still rear facing, and I intend on keeping her this way for a while.

Is there anyone out there with a radian who can comment on whether it is possible for kids to get arms out? Is this the answer to our problem? I am getting very tired of stopping the car constantly to put them back on!

Thanks

We haven't got to the stage where DS is attempting to get his arms out...but the Radian has a clip that goes across the chest...like in the Evenflo capsules, which holds the straps secure. Even if she could move the clip right down to where the carseat harness does up I don't think there would be enough room to slide out... But, could she undo the clip??

DS has never got his rms out, but I don't know if that is the carseat or him as he hasn't been in anything else. Has plunket got any wise advice for you?

Its quite hard to move the strap down that goes across the chest, but she might be able to open it. I think you can get covers that go over thhe clip to stop them being able to open them. Where abouts are you? Maybe someone on here lives near you and could let you try your daughter in their radian?

Thanks everyone.

If the clip can be moved down then it probably won't keep her arms in anymore than the safe and sound.

I might have to give plunket a call, as I am out of ideas!

Bizzy mentioned http://www.hurphydurphy.com/ - this in the other thread you started, would it work?

And also do you have a mirror so she can see you?

I had this problem with my son in a Brio one morning, but figured out the straps needed to be adjusted to the next level. No more slipping the hands underneath the strap now! We also have a radian in DH car and have had no issues.

Maybe you could go to Plunket or Baby on the Move to get them to check the car seat out?

Thanks Aethaia - She's opened the buckle a few times, but the bigger problem we have is that she constantly slides her arms out(leaving essentially just a lapbelt). We've tried a mirror, but it didn't seem to make a difference.

The straps seem to be at the right level, I might go see plunket and get them to have a look at it, but I think the problem is that the straps are too far apart for her. At the moment I am using a Houdini, which slows her down a little, but she can still squeeze over it (and I don't want to put it too close to her neck)

I will go see plunket, but would appreciate it if anyone can share their experiences

I just found http://kiwibaby.com/shopping/pgm-more_information.php?id=115&=SID#MOREINFO - this and it reminded me of this thread!
Not sure if you're still having a problem or whether it's sorted but thought I'd post anyway...
