DP and I are discussing #2 and have decided we'd like to do cloth...
We're hoping to get all the nappies in one hit that we'd need for perhaps NB or 1-2 month old until about 2-3 years old... What would be the best nappies to go with? And would it be better to just get OSFA nappies? I have seen one brand of nappies do a birth - 3yo kit for around $6-700... So we'd be looking to spend about that much... There are people that no a lot more than me  But i would get a 12 pack of itti tuttos which are osfa and then a 10 pack of pop in nappies from chic cheeks the pack come with 3 night boosters so you could use over night to. These 2 packs would be $800 together tho  although there will be specials before your #2 comes along. Okay it sounds like a fabulous idea to get them all in one go, but I have rarely found anyone that it works for!
If it was me I would hire a kit for the NB stage so you dont have to worry about that(if its going to be your last bubba). Then I would have OSFA nappies and maybe some sized ones. I would get 10 cheap pockets of TM. You can get them for around $100 and most come with two inserts. There is nothing wrong with them, and they are really good to have as back up nappies. I also reccommend the Itti Tutto's. Wait until they are on special, they do 20% off on occasion, then buy a bulk pack to save money even more. I only use my pop-ins as night nappies, I have 4 and that is enough, however they can be used as day nappies too. The only thing about cloth nappies is once you start its VERY hard to stop as they are so cute and scrummy and pretty and oh my you will end up buying lots! hahahaha  -------------

Good idea about hiring a kit! Haha - with DD I got some Pea Pods before she was born but managed to control myself. I think the one off cost shocked DP so we ended up doing disposables! But she was in cloth from about 5 weeks until about 4-5 months. Thanks! ------------- http://lilypie.com">

Shock him with the total cost then & rejoice in how much you'll save
I used simple flat nappies for the first 6 weeks with covers if you want to go cloth from birth, next time I'll be getting snappi's to hold the nappies together rather than my Down Undies covers & use a thirsties cover. Or even the covers from farmers work ok. That way you could also do the hire kit to find out what you like. ------------- Kel http://lilypie.com">

Over the course of a baby life you will spend $3000ish on disposables versus $700 on cloth...... Its a big difference, and even then you can get some of your money back when you on sell them..... -------------

Good idea about the fats, we used them at 5 weeks when we were in hospital and they were great as the hospital didn't have nappies and we ran out but they were 'osfa'. A&C that's how I've talked DP round with the cost of nappies! I think we worked out that we spent about $700 on nappies last year (but we only buy the cheap nappies not Huggies, etc.) Which is frustrating as I had the same amount set aside for that! ------------- http://lilypie.com">

And i'd keep an eye on TM and pick up any bargin naps that come along - depends how you feel about used nappies i guess. I have (well, will have when all the parcels arrice!) 30 odd nappies now and worked out i've paid less then $600 for them all as i brought on specials and off TM. Its taken months to get them all together buying the odd one here and there as i could afford it. If i had the cash sitting around i'd get 2x 12 packs of tuttos which would have fitted DS from about 3 weeks and 24 is heaps. |

OB do a hire kit (they now have a FB page, I will kink it to you) I used it with DD and found it great, they have a HEAP of different nappies to try (all of which you can buy in NZ easily) so you can find out what works/fits/is best for bubs (since they are all different!)

Emma, thanks! And yup talk is very serious. It's either jump in and do it now as 2 will be our max or wait until we've got other stuff out of the way but discussing that... Lily could be anywhere from 5-8yo! So we're going to give it a go in about a months time once Depo stops (runs out?) and try until New Years and if nothing we'll discuss whether to stop or keep trying... We have had a fair bit of pressure from family though telling us we're nuts if we wait until she is 8 (what would be the point etc) and to just get it over and done with now. DP and I aren't too bothered although wouldn't mind either way so figured no harm in seeing what happens anyway. Looking pretty forward to it but hoping the Depo doesn't muck things up a bit... MIL took ages to TTC #3 as she was on Depo for 2 years after #2 and think it took her a year and a bit to get pregnant  - tbh the cost had put him off having another (of nappies I mean) as we've got everything else for another and providing everything goes well we'll (I'll lol) BF too (can't see why I can't). ------------- http://lilypie.com">
