Thinking ahead here...
Because of my health problems I will need an obstetrician when I get UTD, does anyone know if Southern Cross medical insurance cover you for obstetric care?

I think there is a limit of around $1500 - might pay to check
One of my friends have just been through it & have had to pay an extra $3,000 to cover their care.

Is there anyway you could get it covered publicly? Once you are UTD, or you could call a MW now and see what they say?

Depends if your policy includes it, just ring them and ask :-) I do know that you need to be on the policy for 3 years before you are eligable though.

Second to what the others said...

The wellbeing two and Ultracare plans both cover$1,250 worth of obstetrics after 3 years continuous cover, however an obstetrician costs $3-4k.

Im pretty sure though if you are considered high risk, that your midwife will work in conjunction with an ob and that will be funded.

Good luck

What PB said...

I know there is another plan (can't remember the name) which I think has $500 cover. And you do have to be on for 3 years continuously...

I am doing obstetrician privately and he costs $3300 - so out of pocket $2050...

Has a good payment system though.... $1100 at 20 weeks, and same again at 30 and 40 weeks. So no out of pocket expense until 30 weeks which is a wee while off...

Thanks guys. I've had the health insurance policy for a while, it is a shame that they cover so little of it - but I guess every bit helps. I'll have to give them a call and see :)

I will be considered high risk, so hopefully the govt will help out somehow!
