Hi

We are selling a car on sella at the mo.

I got this email from a potential buyer:

Hi,
I am willing to buy your vehicle as the condition suits my need,so i will want you to contact me with your final price and email where exactly the vehicle is situated?,

Payment will be by NZ bank deposit.

I replied with the price ($11000) and our location, and then 5 mins later got this reply:

Thanks for your mail and confirmation, the price and condition of the
car is ok by me,i am currently in Scotland and i am
shipping the car to Australia and i will arrange all shipment without
you spending a dime or stress you up on this, also the shipping company
will only pick up your car when you confirm to them that you have
received your car money from me,and due to my current location i am
unable to view the car but have to trust your word about the
condition.

Also, the only form of payment i can make for now is bank transfer and
i will be making the payment through bank transfer.please let me know
if that is ok by you so we can proceed and complete this transaction
asap,

Please Note: You will receive your car payment before any pick up process.

I hope to hear from you soon,

It kind of seems a bit suspicious to me. Could it be a scam? Or if we get the money and ownership transferred, is there any risk that we could be caught out?

YES YES YES!!!!! SCAM!!!

I had a very similar thing when I was selling my car on Trade Me; TM were actually aware of it and contacted me not long after I got the message, telling me to ignore it.

Haha yeah seems really dodge. Why would you buy a car when your in Scotland and have it shipped to Australia?? I can only see someone going to that trouble if it were a rare or collector car. Sneaky

Definitely a scam, TM is not open to overseas people so ignore him. Was his name abolas19 perchance?

Google the e-mail and it will probably come up with HEAPS of scam warnings about that e-mail address.

Yes they get you to send ID or send money through western union.

Always google the e-mail, name and phone numbers to see if anything dodge comes up. I had nigerian scammers trying to offer me houses to rent without me looking at them!

what they do is transfer the amount to you but do extra and then ask you to deposit the extra amount back into there account then the payment they originally made bounces and then you are out of the money they paid "extra"

A bit much over-emphasis on the "you will receive money before you ship the car"... Hehe the cheeky buggers..

Farrah on Teen Mom (haha how sad are my references) got scammed in exactly the same way! Lucky you were on to it enough to ask the question in the first place. good luck selling the car (legitimately of course!)
