I picked up a Johnsons gift pack thingie at the Warehouse for $10 that had a smaller size bottle of baby lotion, baby shampoo, baby powder and travel size wipes. I don't usually use the Johnsons but they're the perfect size to keep in the nappy bag for emergencies.
Other than that for Maya I just used to keep 4 or so spare nappies, a couple of bibs, a couple of changes of clothes, baby wipes and baby powder. And when she got older a couple of tins of baby food and some of those trial size sachets of baby rice you get from Karicare.
Haven't made up a nappy bag for the gremlins yet tho.

For general outings I've got in my nappy bag a change of clothes, a dummy, four 'spare' nappies, a travel pack of wipes, a sample size container of barrier cream, a travel change mat, a couple of face cloths, and a couple of plastic bags.

i used to leave some wipes in the bag permanently. i found it best when gabriel was a baby to make sure the bag had everything i needed in it the night before so i always had it ready if i needed to run out the door.
so change of clothes (2 at least depending on weather) nappies, wipes, samples of bum rash powder or cream, smelly bags to put my dirty nappies in, rattle for entertaining baby if need be, change mat (came with bag) cloth nappies for when change mat was dirty... the list could go on for ages...

I keep the spare clothes (a full set)in a plastic zip lock bag, and the nappie grear in a clear plastic ziplock bag, that way, when I go from day care bag to going out bag, I just take the 2 plastic bags out and I am sorted. I "refill" those plastic bags nightly, and also keep (in both nappy bags) plastic bags, facecloths, spare wipes, suncream, hats and whatever, it gets a bit like a handbag...

So organised, ladies!! I love it. Those little bottles of Johnson's products, are they re-fillable? Did you buy them recently, Emma? (in other words, if I haul myself to the Ware-Whare on Wednesday is there a chance I'll still find them there?).

I've got nothing to add to all those lists, except to say that I have to regularly check the clothes change in my baby bag - mostly in the first 6 months - to make sure the clothes are still the right size. They grow out of them sooo quickly!

Andie - I spotted them in the mailer a couple of weeks back so dispatched Mum to get them, so they should definitely still have some.
This is such a good thread. I've done this whole baby thing before and yet other people's ideas are reminding me things that my Mummy brain has forgotten

Oh and I also leave wipes in the glove box of the car even now for cleaning up sticky paws.

Andie, I went to the Palmy Warehouse the day after the mailer came out and could not find them at all. If you have any luck please let me know as I want to get a few boxes to have.
Can't really add anything to the bag list other than I left things like nappies and wipes in the bag all the time and just added more if we were running low.

I think ours is pretty much the same...4 nappies, wipes, a cloth/face cloth, bib, change of clothes, change mat and thick cloth to go over the top, small barrier cream and small talc and a plastic "wet bag". And of course a bottle or two gets added depending on how long we are out for.
We are also trying to make it a habit to restock the bag once home so each time we go out we can just grab the nappy bag without having to double check what's in it.

I'll let ya know if I find them, Becks - they sound handy. If I go into town at all this week it'll be tomorrow morning. I've got small (not mini) ones in the nappy bag now, but true to my normal packing-styles, that bag is looking waaay too full already (without a change of clothes even), and it ain't too small a bag!

I hadnt thought about what im gonna usu in nappy bag for outtings! At the moment its packed with bubs stuff for hospital!
Do people use nappy creams routinely? Or just when bubs has a rash? I wasnt gonna use anything at first, just make sure shes nice and dry after nappy changes.

I used powder at every change (either curash or johnsons anti-rash) and cream only if she was a bit red which wasn't too often.
I don't think I started using the powder till I started using the cloths when she was about 6 weeks old? Can't remember exactly, it's sooooo long ago!
