When DD was tiny, I had the OB hirekit so had covers aplenty for my prefolds and didn't really pay any attention to how many I had in circulation etc.

So, those who've used prefolds on newborns, what are your favourite covers, and how many did you have?

I so far have 2 newborn ecomoon covers, one wool soaker in miniature (my mum knitted it to fit DD when she was a week old) and 2 small bummis covers. The bummis covers are quite big though, I used them on DD for months and months.

Any suggestions? I'm expecting bub to be about 3.5 kg, give or take. But if DD is anything to go by, it'll be of the long, skinny variety.

I used the xsmall Thirsties wraps for my last 2 babies with there real nappy pre folds. I found them fantastic. Never once had a leak. I am not sure if these can still be brought now as they have brought out a one size cover.

We used the bummies super brite covers (they have the double gusset) and they worked really well. The bummis whisper wraps were okay but I preferred the double gussets of the super brites. Didn't try any other brands though.
Kiara was prem with skinny legs but I think she fit the smalls at about 3kg. Although I see the small super brites are supposedly from 3.5kg. Hmm maybe we did use the whisper wraps until she fit the small super brites.
They're still all in garage in a mystery box somewhere so i can't count them for you but I didn't have that many covers. 6 maybe? But I was using some small fuzzi's as well.

I used bummis when DD was in little prefolds, but I have bummis and thirsties in the bigger sizes. I love thirsties duo better. I'd like to try thirsties duo size 1's. but I have so many bummies I don't need any more.

I had two NB bummis and 4 small bummis and thats it! DD grew out of the NB pretty quick and was in her pockets by 6 weeks as she was growing out of the small ones.

If it's covers that you're after I can recommend the Real Nappies (used for DS) and will be using again in the near future :). Another cover that I found works great is the http://www.theclothnappy.co.nz/nappycovers-real-nappies-cloth.aspx - Little Lamb cover .

I had a hire kit from YoYo nappies in Nelson - we had six covers I think (one was a prem size) but we'd usually use around 4 in rotation. They were brilliant. double gussets and no leaks.

I am using thirsties in the xs size and the small size. Never had a leak but would say that the smalls went plenty small enough to cover prefold and that at six week the xs are really getting too small already. So in short I would go with just smalls rather than xs.
Oh and I have six covers.

real nappies covers worked well for us but also i found the cheap old fashioned wrap style with velcro fastening from farmers just as good for newborns.

I really like the weehuggers I got from cheeky cherubs. They go from 2.5kg - 8kg. You can get snaps or velcro.
