Hi there,
We are in the process of buying a stroller and as first time parents have little/no knowledge of brands or the best type to get. Would love any advise from you experienced parents out there! I want to be able to jog with it and walk the dog often at a park with a gravel walkway so want something I am able to take off road. The one which we like the look of at this point is the Mountain Buggy Terrain but I have heard mixed reviews about this. A friend has reccomended Phil and Teds but again I have heard mixed reviews about these. Thanks for your help! |

The best way to work out what is best for you is to go into the stores and have a look at the different models.

Have you looked at Valco? I think you can only get them in NZ online these days, but they are brilliant! I think there is someone importing them on TM at the moment. All the style of a P&Ts, but rugged, easy to run with, great offroad and not too bulky. Totally recommend. My second idea would be mountain buggy urban jungle, strong enough for offroad, and not as bulky to fold down as the terrain. off road, a fixed front wheel is best, and swivel for town/shops. Phil & Teds flicks to either at push of a button.

| We have valco ones in store here for what its worth, they had one that was in the $900 range and man was it gorgeous. It was easily the best stroller ive ever driven. I was looking for one that was good for running/park/offroad as well and it would have been my pick. But the price tag was too much. Havent heard anything bad about the other options though. |

I have a mountain buggy urban and it's great for cruising round country roads, but a great big beast for taking into shops and putting in the boot. Not that it really bothers me, cos I use a manduca for shopping anyway, it's much easier.
I'm so glad that I bought it on sale really cheap, and that I didn't spend the huge amounts of money lots of people do on a pram, because I actually hardly use it. If I was to do it over, I'd get a second-hand pram off TM, and spend the savings on a decent baby carrier  ------------- http://lilypie.com">  http://lilypie.com">

I got lent a 2nd hand MTB Urban and feel lucky I did, love running and it's great for it on any surface. So much easier to manoeuvre than others I've tried.
On the bulky side for a shop though, but I usually use manduca in that kinda setting. ETA: That's just what you said above T-rex, I should read more carefully

We've got the MB Urban too - I love it. Then again, I use it a lot walking to the library / supermarket / etc, which are in walking distance. I also use it when we visit Mum and Dad on the farm, it's great for that.
If I didn't have many shops within walking distance or go for as many walks round my area, I wouldn't use it much. We have an umbrella stroller I keep in the car for in town, the MB is too much hard work to bother about then. -------------

We have a Mountain Buggy urban elite which was expensive but we're both tall and do lots of rough track type walking so the size of the buggy and suspension is great. But it's massive for the back of the car or for the shops. I'm constantly surprised at how narrow isles are in the shops, even bloody baby shops!
I'm another fan of baby carriers (Moby when tiny then into a Manduca) so also keep that in mind. Walking a dog for example is much easier with a baby in a carrier than in a pram. Bottom line is what is best for one person isn't for the next. Get something that suits what you're going to use it for most - shops/footpaths, running, hiking, size of car, wanting a double for second baby, baby facing you etc. ------------- Adoring Mum to Talisin 8/9/11 and Kiara 18/01/10 |

| I have a P+T Explorer and find it great for jogs and for off-road. Follow the sun hood is excellent and so is the lie-back to sitting feature. Also, great if you are thinking of a second baby some day as you can add the extra seat. |

I have a baby jogger and love it! It's really easy to fold, has a large canopy so you don't really need a sun cover and you can add a toddler jump seat. I've used it for both my kids.
