Thanks to everyone for their support (and particularly advice thanks Emma and newmum) over the dairy free revelation of last week. Connor is doing really well now and has started to settle into something close to a workable routine. He's also started piling on the weight and is up 200gr from his birth weight (now 4660g from b/w of 4395g).
The terrortot is loving having his dad home for entertainment and hasn't really paid that much attention to the baby - I think he's waiting for him to become more interactive.

The pre-teen turns 11 on Sunday, so things will continue to be chaotically busy. Super-stepdad is taking him and three friends to LaserForce to shoot at each other, then filling them up on McDs and returning them to their parents. It seems the best way to have a celebration while not having a mob of pre-teen boys destroying the house and waking the baby and being annoyed by the terrortot who would want to join in.

Thanks! Though I really should post a pic of what she normally looks like...you know...mouth wide open and downturned, face screwed up and red, fists flying...just a shame you can't take a picture of the loud noise that emits from said mouth!

Thanks Emma - and I found a picnic bar substitute - Sweet William Roasted Almond Chocolate Bars...and Sweet William Choc bars for that matter. Not quite a picnic, but definitely good enough to pass for actual chocolate (as well as being dairy, lactose, gluten and peanut free)

Seems like Connor looks a bit like pre-teen...? Maybe I'm imagining things!

Sounds like you have things under control... men obeying instructions and what not. Hope Connor figures out the hierachy soon.

Emma - I found the Sweet William chocolates at the Health 2000 store in Takapuna. They taste more like milk chocolate (normal brown stuff instead of dark) which is good, since I'm not a dark chocolate fan - it's too bitter. I'm also trying to work out how to make a milo substitute...at the moment I'm experimenting with soy milk and hershey's choc syrup. I suppose it serves me right for not liking herbal or fruit teas - but with the supply issues meaning that I have to stay away from caffeine in tea and coffee and milo being loaded full of milk protein goodness, I'm stuck drinking hot water if I want a hot drink. Ikk. I've tried the choc soy drinks, but it's not the same.

What about rice milk? I can't stand soy but I can kind of tolerate the rice milk. And the Cadbury Drinking Choc is dairy free I think.

Ah Rach - that makes up for the mayhem and destruction they cause - you end up looking at them and saying 'you're cute' and forget that they've just shaved the cat or something as equally terrible.

Emma - I haven't tried rice milk yet, though a few people have raved about it. Will put it on Nick' shopping list for next time he leaves the house. I've been having the choc soy milk on my sultana bran in the morning with some LSA (linseed, soy and almond ground mix that Mum bought me and told me to have because it's good for your bowels and liver - thanks Mum). It makes quite a nice breakfast and conceals the soy flavour of the milk. I'll definitely check out the drinking choc option too. Many thanks once more

Yep, yay for Whittakers!! Connor is gorgeous Maree and sounds like everything is running well at your house! I figured you can bascially bake anything to be dairy free just use soy/rice milk and dairy free margarine (theres a new one which is way cheaper than Olivani but it is too late to think and cant be bothered walking to the fridge to check). Anyway, choccy cake became a favourite in our house!

Some of the real budget brand margarines are dairy free too. Can't remember any brands off th etop of my head but some of the supermarket-own brand are just made with oil no milk powder.
