My 25 month old daughter in the last two weeks has decided that she 1)hates wet or dirty nappies and 2) doesn't want to wear nappies. She will say when she needs to go. However as time goes on she's got more and more resistant to the idea of doing anything on a potty or toilet. She's say she needs to go, sit there and then as soon I give up or out nappy or knickers on out comes the poo or wee and much mess everywhere.
I'm being very calm and patient but very unsure about what to do. She knows that she'll get a sticker if she does something on the potty, but its not really working. Do i ramp up the reward or give up. I'm nearly 37 weeks pregnant (poor timing for wanting to quit nappies I know) and bending up and down on the floor is not much fun.
She's very verbal and seems to understand the process and instructions.

I cracked it (just about) with DD1 through upping the reward above stickers. We went out to warehouse and chose a toy (she is really into Thomas at the moment so chose a $15 train from that set) and then set up a sticker chart that when she got 6 stickers she got the train. If your daughter is verbal she should be able to understand this and see the chart filling up. We put the train where she could see it and talked about it loads and loads and loads.
Next time we made it 8 stickers for a train, and then 10, and then 12. Now she sis happy just with a sticker, which is just as well as buying trains was a bit ruinous!
Bribery/reward worked for us.

Try to identify her weak spot. With DD it's marshmallows and My Little Pony. We started TT last week and she gets a mini marshmallow every time she does something in the toilet, and got a sticker each time. After 10 stickers she got a small My Little Pony toy. This gave her an immediate reward and a delayed reward to keep her interested. I sat the Pony on the cistern in it's packet so she saw it every time she went to the loo.
I'd say if she doesn't want to wear a nappy give it a go. Though, I thought DD was ready just before DS was born but she just wasn't getting it so I decided that for my own sanity we would put it off. Much easier now that I can just sit DS down outside the bathroom with a toy while I deal with her.
