I have been traveling lots since my first child was 8 months old and now she is 3 and I have a son who is 9 months. Here are some tips I would like to share
1. On the plane - I know some ppl use phenegen or pamol but I would try it before flying as it can turn out to be the opposite for the child and make them hyperactive. I tried it on the plane and I had a hyperactive toddler for 6 hours out of a 10 hour flight.
2. If your toddler runs around or your baby is too heavy for his sling, I tried the ride on carry on. It just attaches to your rollaboard luggage and your child sits on the chair happily and it converts to a travel stroller. I got it online. Think it was $72 including shipping. From memory I think the promocode was RIDE01 when you put it in the buy now page.
3. I have used my frontpack bjorn quite a few times when baby was around 3 months plus as his head was not strong but then I found this other sling on trade me which is a japanese baby carrier which you
can fold up and put it in your nappy bag. brilliant as it was so compact after folding it. Think it was like $25
4. Backpack harness or just harness when you in open areas and crowded places is good
5. I found a travel booster seat which you can fold up and so light. If interested pm me for details
6. Finally a small everyday backpack instead of a nappy sling bag if travelling with two. If you have one that anybag is good

If you need anymore tips pm me or ask away as I have done so many long haul trips this past 3 years with one child and now two.

Good ideas there. I am also a traveller with children and one thing on the plane I can add is don't be afraid to ask the staff for help it is their job to be there for you.

Only thing I can add - if you have children, don't fly with Jetstar. The most unhelpful and obnoxious attendants I have ever met.
