Welcome to OHbaby and congrats on your pregnancy!
I have used Colleen van der Laan and Shelley Sjaarda and them both (thhough Colleen is semi-retired now and I don't think is taking on new people).
Here is a http://www.ohbaby.co.nz/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=34012&KW=recommend - link to a thread in the pregnancy section recommeding midwives from all over the country, which might be handy.
Also check out http://www.waterfordbc.co.nz/waterford/index.php?ctnt=lmcs.php - www.waterfordbc.co.nz and their list of midwives who have agreements to birth there (and I think River Ridge too).
All the best for a healthy and happy pregnancy!

So far, Kirstin Rouse seems good I can't vouch for how she is at delivering babies, but the prenatal care so far has been all good.

Thanks ladies - and thanks for the welcome! I am looking at Waterford as opposed to River Ridge for delivery.
It's all very new, so I am freaking out slightly as to what I should be doing. So I want to get the midwife sorted! And at the same time, I want to keep everything as quiet as possible until the 12 week mark...so asking around friends/family is not really an option!

How come Waterford over Riverridge? Not that it matters, of course, I'm jsut curious. Most MWs who can do one can do the other.

I can recommend Dawn McHugh, I have unfortunately had 2 miscarriages, and changed midwives after the first one as I wasnt impressed that I didn't hear from her after she referred me to the hospital.
2nd time I had Dawn and she was fantastic, and is based out of waterford.
Good luck and congratulations!

I had Colleen van Der Laan twice, although due to circumstances she didn't deliver any of my children! She was lovely. In the end, Val Treanor delivered my son. She was very professional and I found her great considering I'd never met her before I arrived at the hospital in labour!

I had Angela Hindman and Margaret Spencer (Ab Fab Midwives). They work as a team and were awesome. It was nice being able to go to appointments a bit frazzled from work and walk out laughing.
Was planning on birthing at waterford but ended up with an emergency c-section (bubs was breech and I didn't want to take chances) so it wasn't to be, though I did transfer for a couple of days after being released from hospital. Waterford was lovely, though if you're planning on doing antenatal classes I wasn't too impressed with the ones out of waterford (maybe it was just my group?). I've heard amazing things about the maternal journey antenatal classes operating out of river ridge. You can go to these but still birth at waterford if you want.

Hi Evelyn, Congrats on the pregnancy! I also had Dawn McHugh at Waterford and couldn't rate her highly enough. I had a few complications in my pregnancy and she was fantastic the whole way through. I have recommended her to all of my friends, of which six have now used her services and also highly rate her. Good luck

Looking at Waterford, just because I found it a lot cleaner and more welcoming than River Ridge. I have visited friends who have had babies at both recently, and it was just a personal preference really.
Thanks for everyone's help on this. My task this week is to find one. So you help is greatly appreciated!
P.S oooEvaooo - nice to know there is more than one Evelyn out there!

I have had Kirstin Rouse for both my babies, one 4 years ago and one 3 weeks ago. She is an amazing midwife, I didn't end up having her at the birth this time round instead another midwife from her practice (Julie) filled in for her and she was great too. Kirstin was present at my first and it was like having a best friend there supporting you not just a midwife. She has never left anything to chance with my babies which I am very greatful for and has always got scans, tests, ect done when I have had a problem very promptly and I was always well informed. Great care post birth too with regular home visits. She can do births at all birthing units in hamilton and as far as I know in the wider region.
