I thought it would be fun to start an exercise addict's thread here to discuss how our exercise habits changed with BFP, and through each trimester, share tips for maternity workout gear, exercise modifications, and labour prep!
I'll start with an intro:
I'm 29, and pre-pregnancy was a runner/triathlete. Slowish, but enthusiastic, training 7-15 hours a week throughout the year (7 in quiet periods, 15 at peak training season).
In the first tri, I didn't do much exercise at all as I was terrified and exhausted. Kept up with some walk/running and swimming- probably did 2-4 hours a week on average.
I'm picking up a little in the second tri, but bump is already making it harder to run, and I'm still feeling first-trimesterish a few days a week. Also returned to the gym at about 13 weeks for the controlled environment and to do some much neglected weights training, and am really enjoying it, but need to get a bit more light cardio in!

I should post in here for motivation
Exercise has been very minimal for me lately. I'm hoping that now it is lighter I can go for big walks in the evening after work.
Pre-preg I used to run after work, though only like 15min and then around 30min of doing squats, tricep dips etc.
I've been trying to keep it up but the "I'm just going to get fat anyway" mentalilty is starting to kick in.
Just have to remember I can at least try and have toned arms and legs even when my belly is massive!

i don't know that i could quite call myself an addict, but will join in anyways i had just got into the habit of gyming each weekday morning before i found out i was UTD... this week and last have been tough though, went 4 times last week and don't know if i will manage that this week.
i get a little worried about the overheating thing, how hot is too hot? i've been keeping to light cardio (partly because if i went hard like normal i would be spewing my ring out hah) just in case!

LOL I could post in here, being a zumba addict, only going twice a week and then MS hit next week will be my first week back as finally I feel decent in the evenings again.
I also need to up the exercise on my dogs as they are getting in to their "showing" season which means I need to run around with them. Both other pregnancy I did light running (shorts bursts lol) until 8 months preg, definitely helped labour wise I think.
I need an idea on a reasonable sports bra, not too expensive if anyone has any ideas.

I was good last night and went for a light jog then did a few exercises for arm and leg toning. I still want to be able to wear shorts this summer!
As for sports bras, I'm cheap and usually just get something from The Warehouse or Kmart which has always worked ok for me being small chested.
Might have to get a more decent one now though!

Minipig- I'm the same. Still happy with my warehouse sports crop tops even though I'm at least a cup size bigger. I managed an actual "run" (very slow) last night, which I was stoked about, and have had some good days in the gym recently.
AandC- I'd check the Bendon outlet stores? But some of the cheap Farmers/Warehouse/Kmart/Homebrand bras are fine even up to bigger sizes, especially since most of us won't be bouncing around as much now!

Hey P what a great idea!
Sports bras - I am on the larger side (pre-preg F, now up an H eek). Before the BFP I wore a Berlei Shock Absorber, level 4, which meant my boobs were well supported when doing high impact exercise (such as running).
Now at 19 weeks I wear a Freya sports bra (GG cup) and that is just as good as my Berlei. It cost $100 from Rich Undercover in Auckland but once I knew what worked for me I bought another online in the next cup size, which cost me $50.
Background for exercise for me - I'm 34 and like P a triathlete, although middle to back of the pack depending on the distance. I completed my fourthh Ironman tri in March then stopped taking the pill.
1st tri I coudl not run as my heart rate would go through the roof far too quickly, so I power walked with short bits of running (downhill). I managed to stay swimming 2-3 times a week and would get to a weekly spin class so long as it was on a day off work (swim and spin are on the same day and I couldn't do both with work in the middle).
2nd tri - running mojo has returned but I am much slower than I used to be. started sffering from plantar fasciitis which makes it sore to walk in the mornings but it's getting better. I still swim 2-3 times a week (3.5km each time) and this week is our last spin session of the winter.
I hope to be as active as possible to a) help the labour be as easy as I can possibly make it myself and b) so I don't gain as much weight as I am fully capable of as I gain weight really easily and I've had a very big appetite.

Cool, I was wondering about warehouse ones. I might take a walk down there this morning seeing it's brilliant sunshine
Just found out my zumba class isn't on next tues cause of a master class (sob) man I wish I could go.
Being able to exercise definitely improves your stamina for labour. I don't exercise during pregnancy to maintain or regulate weight gain, I just do it to keep fit. Funnily the first pregnancy, I could run (dog showing) but I couldnt' walk on the street down to the garden centre which is about 400m away LOL

Hi ladies, can I join in here? While I wouldn't class myself as an addict, I enjoy being active. This is a complete 180 to the woman I used to be - who thought people who ran were a bit silly I certainly don't think that anymore, now my aim is to be one of those 'silly' people one day, and complete a triathalon and 5k.
Earlier in the year I finally found my motivation to lose weight and get fit(-ish ). I got halfway to my weightloss goal (11kg loss) and then the next day found out I was preggy. I was determined not to fall into the 'eating for 2' trap and the mindset of 'I'm just going to get fat anyway' - though I hear it calling constantly!
I can't really jump around much anymore as it's starting to hurt (and my bladder can't take it ) but I go to Zumba once a week and do a workout DVD at home most mornings. I use Turbo Jam and just do a 20min one. I also try to walk as quickly as I can whenever I need to walk somewhere. I use www.myfitnesspal.com to monitor my food and exercise too. It's kind of like Facebook where you have friends to support and encourage you along the way and I really think it has helped me this time around.
Right enough blabbering from me!

I'm glad to hear a few of you do Zumba. I called up a place nearby that does classes the the lady sounded mildly concerned that a pregy lady wanted to join!
I'd also love to find a pregnancy yoga class or something similar too. If I can't find a class I might look for a DVD I can do at home.
Would love to swim too but I don't live near any pools.

They may have been concerned because the general rule for exercise and pregnancy is its fine to do the exercise that you were doing prepreg. But not really to try anything new

I joined a pilates class at 11 weeks even though it's been 5 years since I last did pilates. They were fine with it as they knew what other exercise I did and my instructor has modified some of the exercise to suit.
Some people may be a bit worried about overheating, I know some people are told not to get a heart rate of 140 or more.
My MW said as long as you can talk you are okay, for me this means about 150bpm.

My zumba instructor has just finished up teaching Zumba gold at 37 weeks. I would be hesitant to start up doing it if you haven't done it before. I hope that I can get back into it, but will be having to change my style quite a lot.
I was surprised at how hot I got when I went for my walk today, first lot of exercise in a while really other than chasing 2 two year olds around.

Hi Guys, think I'll join in here too! (Waves minipig )
I'm another triathlon girl, and was entered into next years Taupo ironman, but will pull out as soon as I have my 12 week scan next week and get the all clear. I had to have some help conceiving so I kind of hoped when i entered that i might have to pull out - its something i've ALWAYS wanted to do and I just needed something to focus on other than TTC just in case it was gonna take ages.
Anyway i've been too freaked to do anything other than walk in my first trimester, but will start antenatal yoga at 14 weeks (they don't let you start before then) and maybe a prenatal pilates class too. As well as walking and swimming.
I'm sure anything and everything will help in the end though!

I'm not yet pregnant, but I've been thinking a lot about what I can/can't do when I get there!
I go to the gym 4-5 days a week, and really push myself every time - I sweat a LOT. I've only been going to the gym for 2 and a bit months, that said, I'm skinny and relatively fit anyway.
I realise I won't be able to do workouts like that, and definitely won't want to really push myself, or do weights.
Does anyone know what weights/resistance training machines you are 'allowed' to use while pregnant?
Also - good (inexpensive) sports bras, I love cotton on ones, they also have some without underwires too (good for later on!)
minipig - if you google 'fit bumps' you should be able to find classes that are pregnancy specific, a friend of mine is attending fit bumps in Three Kings (Auckland) and really enjoys it, she said it IS hard work, and you do get pushed - but I'd assume (and hope) that the instructors all know what they are doing, and how much is too much :)

Velvet - on youtube look up the user doctorcathy she has some resistance/weights exercises and shes doing them heavily pregnant. I did these wile I was pregnant up until the day before I had Alex and they were great. It's good seeing someone with a big belly do them too. They won't be as hard core at a gym workout but it's still pretty good. My MW ok'ed them

I am wondering if I'm better off quitting the gym and putting that money towards swimming (can't afford both) or aqua-aerobics, and doing 30min walks daily with the dog, and some resistance/weights exercises at home

Hey Piwakawaka - I'm down in Dunedin
GL for the 12km!
I'm hoping i can still ride, even if its just on the rollers, once i get too big and uncomfortable to run - if i even get brave enough to start running again after i'm out of the first trimester that is!

Ooh-thanks for the tip, Kebakat!
Velvet- I would probably choose the pool over the gym- just because you can do a lot at home with bodyweight and cheap dumbells, whereas you can't really bring the pool home. But that's because I really love swimming :)
Hun- I have been freaked about running too, and sometimes it just seems too hard- plodding along at snail's pace, worrying about every little feeling. I ride a bit on the trainer (very impressed that you ride rollers!!!) but it's more uncomfortable than I thought- hard to get down low (I'm finding hands on hoods or tops a bit awkward already), so I end up sitting upright too much, which means my saddle position is less comfy!

Plantar fasciitis is really bugging me (but not enough to make me sit on my big bum)so I'm going to try to move it around as much as poss before Sunday, especially since I can't do my usual dose of ibuprofen before a race!
Final spin class tonight (winter only as everyone likes to ride on the roads in daylight saving time). Took it easy and then indulged in post-class pizza!

The rollers were my xmas present from DH last year Piwakawaka, I'd been wanting some for ages! They take a wee bit of getting used to but are great once you've got them mastered!
4 times Kiwiking - I'm jealous! Good on you, its such an awe inspiring event, would be hard not to get addicted i reckon! Even just the atmosphere is amazing, whether you're a contestant or a supporter!
Spent a good hour at the pool this morning, felt great I seem to have done something to my hips/pelvis/lower back??? No idea what, but its making walking at a decent sort of pace a bit difficult. Will ask my MW about it on monday...

Thanks for the advice :) I had a chat with DH last night, and we've decided I will quit the gym when I get UTD, and buy a concession card for the local pool and go to the 'power aqua' (aqua aerobics in deep water) classes twice a week. My bestie who is also TTC (her #2) has said she will come along to the classes with me - more fun with two of us!
I've got 1kg and 2kg hand weights, and two different sized swiss balls, and a rebounder, so I can do a bit of stuff at home, as well as walking the dog.

I went for a very tramatic run yesterday. Started out with a nice easy jog and was going well. Then these two big birds started swooping at me (must have gone to close to their nest)
I turned around and started running for my life in the other direction and crying my eyes out (I'm terrified of birds) But they just wouldn't leave me alone and followed me for ages.
Then cried all the way home.
Probably the last run I will take for a while.
I can see the funny side now but at the time I was terrified.

I've got another question.... When TTC, should I change my exercise regime at all? Ie slow down and not push myself as much? obviously I won't know if I am UTD for a couple of weeks, and I am worried about those couple of weeks, incase I get too hot or whatewver and miscarry!

Eee- hate swooping birds. I got attacked by seagulls a couple of times on holiday up North (and get attacked by magpies on the bike all the time). Horrible!
Velvet- some people (especially hardcore runners) find that slowing down helps (possibly partly because of increased body fat), but if you're doing a normal level of exercise, it should be ok for TTC. If you're worried about miscarriage in that grey period, you could cut down for the 2ww, but then work a bit harder in the other two weeks?
I found that my body slowed down for me- I'd been trying for a few months, and had slowed down a little bit after a season full of triathlon, but in those two weeks before my BFP all my workouts were a bit lacklustre. The day after AF was due, I was convinced for my entire run it had arrived, as it was such a rubbish run; but no, it was actually the baby.
Sorry for the novel!

PS- should have said you probably don't need to be TOO worried about those two weeks either- plenty of people do carry on with life as normal for two weeks (plus) with no obvious adverse affects- but I can definitely understand the worry!

I'm now 30 weeks and have kept up my running through to the end of 6 months when it just got too uncomfortable.
Have now switched to ecliptical training and continuing with light weights.
I'm still going to the gym 5 days a week and plan on continuing to do that until 7 1/2 months.
I've always used a heartrate monitor to ensure I keep the pace slow enough.
Worst part for me was having to get off the treadmill a few times in 1st trimester to throw up. Luckily MS stopped at 20 weeks which made it a bit easier to go to the gym.

I think I'm going to have to put my gym membership on hold, or take a break for a while. Three weeks ago I had my assessment at the gym including being weighed. Last week I thought I'd lost weight, so weighed myself again - I had lost 2kg. I weighed myself again today (exactly 1 week later) and I've lost another 400g!
Normally you'd think this was a good thing, right?!
Problem, I'm 176cm tall, and I'm now only 57.8kg and still losing according to the scales today.
Yes, they are the same scales that I've used each time, and yes, I am pretty sure that I'm eating properly!
Not good to be losing weight 2 weeks out from TTC!
I think I might change to walking round the block and starting aquacize earlier than planned.

Wheeesh! That makes you about 5ft9 doesn't it? I'd definitely be pulling out of the gym then specially if you're already going to be a high-risk pregnancy. I'm 170cm or 5"7 and I've not been able to carry a baby if I'm under 67kg. Thats not trying to freak you out lol lots of people don't an issue with getting preg while either under or overweight but I'm always interested in how other people do it. I have a blood disorder and CFIDS and I think maybe my body just needed the extra stores for growing a baby.
I'm really just stalking this thread lol I love the idea of exercising during pregnancy but I always get so freaking sick its not been possible. Has anyone had SPD and found a form of exercise thats helped? I think swimming would probably be the best bet wouldn't it?

yep 5ft9. I've never been over 63kg in my whole life (naturally skinny!). I was hoping that when I weighed myself today, that I'd have put ON weight since last week- I've been even making myself eat more. I must just push myself too hard (I'm a bit like that, I can't exercise slowly) and burn up everything I eat.
So I shall walk the dog around the block after work instead.
That's interesting about your weight and carrying a baby. I guess I won't know til we start TTC if my weight matters. I've got a friend who is the same height and skinnier than me (she doesn't watch what she eats either, we are just sticks!), and she got UTD first try :)

Well huge FX I'm not a stick - I have boobs (great boobs according to some aye A&Csmum :primps: ) but I'm the same with exercise. Pre-baby I sat between 60-63kg which is below my official healthy weight range for my height but I was boxing, jogging, doing weights and eating whatever I wanted. I stopped coz we moved and worked at putting some weight on coz of health concerns and bang got a bfp. Went back down to below 65kg after DS1 not by trying, it just came off, had multiple mcs and again had to specifically put weight on and again got a BFP on a oncer lol I've worked at staying heavier since DS2 anyway coz I find my symptoms aren't as mean plus I don't like having MC's but I can't really do much just walking, yoga and pilates otherwise it all falls off
FX you get a bfp straight up :stalk stalk:

LOL Babe!
I had the same theory that I couldn't get preg til I was over 70kg, am 5'8, as #2 took so long & didn't happen til I got back up to that weight, this time around I was 62kg when I got preg so if you're naturally slim then it shouldn't be an issue as that is where your body will naturally sit weight wise.
Am excited about daylight savings, will be taking the dogs for a walk when DH gets home in the evenings.

Babe- the facebook ladies say swimming is good, and gentle walking, but really easy to go too hard with walking :)
I've had some lovely swims this week. Still slow, but haven't had MS for a few days, which makes the breathing better. Plus it's gorgeous!

Glad you've been feeling better P.
I only managed pilates and 1 x swimming (3.4km) this week but I've walked heaps with my family.
Exercise tomorrow will be mostly housework but depending on the weather I may try to get out for a run/walk, especially now my plantar faciitis is clearing up - had a good session at the physio last Monday and she gave me a stretch for DH to perform on my toes. It hurts like hell but it's working so can't complain.

Hi ladies, mind if I join you.
I'm 16 weeks pregnant and still doing Crossfit (www.crossfit.com) I've adjusted it for my/our 'affliction' such as reducing my weights to about 70% of my usual; don't do situps, take it easy with squats, don't do boxjumps or skipping. And still running in the short crossfit-style bursts. So still doing it which I'm really stoked with considering that I did bugger all during my last pregnancy.
I'm interested to see how it's going to aid me in labour and to see how much weight I will put on. At the moment, I've not put on any weight and am 70kgs. Last time, BEFORE I even got pregnant, I was 85kgs and got up to 92kgs at full term. Weight gain doesn't bother me, in fact, during the first trimester I was slightly concerned that I haven't gained weight but it will come, oh... it.will.come
I will carry on as long as I am comfortable and then I will use www.crossfitmom.com for some scaled workouts.
Look forward to hearing how everyone is progressing with their exercise regimes.

Nice work keeping up with cross-fit, MrsH. I've always been keen to give that a go! Maybe after the baby comes- I might have to let my husband's tri training take priority, and cross-fit might be easier to fit in.

My excercise has been non-existant since the bird swooping incident
Just hanging out for the new leisure centre to open up near work so I can go swimming or to aquacise etc after work.
And I finially bought an MP3 player so I'm hoping to get out for more walks.

Yes, definitely give Crossfit a go but I warn you, it's addictive. I love the intensity of it. And it'd probably be easier once you've had baby because they're quick (some are 'for time' so as fast as you can) and there are some workouts that you can do just using your bodyweight so you can do it at home during one of baby's naps.
I was sorry to hear about your 'altercation' with the bird, Minipig. They're a bloody hazard. I hate (the threat of being shat on by) seagulls and avoid them like the plague. And now that the weather is improving (with the exception of this week), walks will be nice. I'm thinking about doing that some lunchtimes.
Did anyone get any exercise in today?

I think Baby King is starting to sap all my energy, or maybe the thunder and lightning last night affected my sleep too much.
Went swimming this morning and was pooped by 1500m but I made myself carry on to 2km and then I just carried on to 3.4km. Amazing what swimming in a squad will make you do.
Was bloody hard though!
As for birds - I had to change a regular running route in Tga as seagulls would start to bomb me. I've had seagull swoops in a number of places and they're terrifying. Only had a magpie watch me once, I picked up a pine cone just in case I had to throw it.

Hi ladies, first time pregnant here, almost 7 weeks.
Before pregnancy, I had been going to the gym 2x a week, running on the treadmill and doing weights. My DP and I had been doing that consistently for a year. Also, I have been doing pole dance for fitness for about 6 months now. It is a really high intensity workout, more like gymnastics, and also tends to leave bruises.
Now I am feeling very timid about working out, especially since I'm in 1st trimester, worried about risk to the pregnancy, and the morning sickness just makes it impossible some days (ever try spinning around a pole while you're nauseated?).
Before pregnancy, I was all for keeping up my exercise routine, as I'm sure being in shape is great for labour. But now I am feeling very protective of myself physically, and trying to find the right balance.
I've switched from running to walking 'uphill' on the treadmill. I tried pole dance class, but was so nauseated/tired I spent half the class sitting on the floor. I don't want to loose all the strength I have gained, but I might need a less intense alternative, with less risk of falling from a height and hurting myself. Maybe pilates? I'm still figuring it out...

Welcome BlueOrchid, and congratulations! I can see why it would be tough doing pole work while pregnant- especially as your bump grows! Pilates or yoga could be good, or you could add some gym days with extra weights? Yoga would help retain some flexibility too. And there's always swimming- especially nice over summer.

Hi ladies, I've been a bit slack recently with exercising. The little voice in my head has been getting louder. You know the one? It says, 'Oh you're pregnant, you're going to gain weight anyway just eat whatever you feel like and sit on your ass!' Anyway I'm back into eating properly and exercising again. Thankfully after a couple of weeks 'off' it hasn't been too hard to get back into - phew! So I've been getting up early to do a Turbo Jam workout and I've been getting a short walk in at lunchtime too. Feel much better for it.
While browsing through Stuff today I came across http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/other-sports/5765366/Woman-gives-birth-after-running-marathon - this article - how awesome is she?
Blueorchid - welcome and congrats on your pregnancy If you are uncomfortable doing a particular exercise I would suggest changing it for something you are comfortable with, i.e. walking or swimming. Have a chat to a trainer at your gym, they be able to help you adjust your program to suit.

Oh yeah, Mummydee, I heard about that. It's so awesome!! I came across this picture on Crossfit today:
Not everyone's cuppatea but I love it.
I had a decent workout today. 20min AMRAP (as many rounds as possible) of 5 pullups, 10 pushups and 15 squats. Got through 10 rounds so quite happy about that. Pullups are with a band and squats are without weight. One of my motivators is my training partner who calls me lazy if I don't work out and he knows that I hate it.
Blueorchid, if it doesn't feel right or comfortable, I wouldn't do it. You'll know your own body and what you're capable of. And quite frankly, just getting through that first trimester alive, let alone, exercising is a feat in itself. You'll start to feel better soon(ish) so just do whatever you can manage.

Hi ladies,
How's everyone doing? I'm 24 weeks tomorrow and finally feeling a bit more like myself; well, a tired, ginormous version of myself. Have had a good week of exercise, but have taken the pressure off a lot- I'm not running as much (though I ended up doing half an hour last night- no walk breaks!), or going to the gym, but I've been swimming heaps (5 times last week), and walking more often.
I'm on a 3 month gym membership and have decided not to renew it later this month- I've liked going, but the gym's not air-conditioned enough to provide much relief over the hot months, so I think it'll just be walking, swimming and preggy yoga for me. And then I can spend the $250 on something we need for bubs :)

I've got hyperemesis and now thats settling to a 'oh I'm semi-human again' level my pelvis has crapped out haha so nothing here. Even walking round doing things with the family has me abit teary at the end of the day. I AM going to start my pilates and some yoga again today though I usually combine that with a blat on the stationary bike but my pelvis can't take the straddling. I've looked at swimming but I'd have to travel up to the next town so a good half hr drive and fitting it in round DH being available for the kids will be near impossible (and taking the kids would be even worse ) so I'm waiting to see if that changes. We brought a big pool so once the weather warms up I might be able to play round in that.

Sounds like a good plan Piwakawaka.
Oh Babe, you poor thing!
I'm doing OK. Still doing Zumba, though this last week the first 10min I was just shuffling around as the BH's were so strong. Thankfully they loosened up after that. I also fell over the other week while walking to work and ended up with grazes on my palms, 1 of my knees, a bruise on my hip and hurt my shoulder (I think I took a lot of weight on it trying to stay off my belly]. Other than the big scab on my knee I'm back to feeling good again. Have definitely slowed down though! My tummy muscles have a big gap between them and my belly is getting pretty big (I had a woman look at me sceptically when I told her I still had 12 weeks to go ... and then she checked that I was in fact only having one . Still keeping up with Turbo Jam though my kicks aren't much higher than my knee now, and still walking while the weather is cool enough.

Hi There
What a great forum topic! I'm 6 1/2 weeks pregnant I have been through 1 miscariage so am doing everything I can this time to look after myself.
I am used to doing swim/run events and 10km road/off-road runs so would normally be doing 3x45 min runs, 2 swim sessions, a weights session and pilates class each week.
Because of a few other complications I have to rest until 12 wks - and I'm a bit scared to do much else than walking, gentle swimming and pilates. Its not easy for me resting though.
I have completed sports med. papers in exercise prescription through Otago University - there we were told if you'd been doing exercise previously you could continue - just to take care in not getting too hot/dehydrated. There isn't a magic heart rate that your heart shouldn't go over - that's a bit of a myth.
Enjoy exercising! I'm jelous of those that can keep on running!

mummydee I've been a terrible stalker I didn't know you fell over!! glad you're ok - next time I'll hide in the bushes close to you so I can leap out and rescue you LOL though you'd probably end up rescuing me
Ok so I didn't do pilates today infact I sat on the couch the whole day in a whack of pain with my pelvis and throwing up sooooo I figured getting stuck on the floor in agony while doing 100s when I had the urge to uh 'regurgitate' wasn't smart gah its actually frustrating and abit disheartening - TG pregnancy had an end date...

Oh Babe, that sounds awful. I wouldn't give exercise a second thought if I felt like that so you're a bit of a hero just coming into this thread IMO.
I had a good workout today. 6 rounds of 3 snatches (tee hee), 6 pull-ups, 9 pushups and 200m. My training partner did 10 and he's a 95kg fitness freak so I'm quite happy with my 60% work rate.

You can do pull ups MrsH?? You're my hero! Upper body strength was somehting I was determined to build, and I was pretty stoked to say I could do 20 push-ups (they were on my knees, but better than the 1 I could barely do prior ). But I haven't really been doing any strength training since early pregnancy.
Babe - I didn't really say too much about falling over - I felt like a bit of a fool! Yeah I don't know if you trying to catch me would be a good idea hun You just take care of yourself!!

Oh, hehehe, I wish! No, I bought a resistance band off TM and use that for assistance. Before that I was doing jumping pull-ups which are WAY easier than normal pull-ups but I was worried about the effect that the jumping would have on the baby. I'd have to say, the resistance band is the best fitness purchase I've ever made.

Wow pull-ups!
Today I got back on my bike for the first time in ages! I rode to work and back for the first time since April. It's only 3km each way (flat) and I was on my mountain bike but I need to raise the handlebars a little as my belly got in the way.
Got swimming in the morning then pilates after work so going to be an active day tomorrow.
I'm not as active as I would have liked but injuries have got in the way. Managed a 5.5km walk (around Blue Lake, Rotorua) on Friday though so hoping I can keep it up so long as I make the time for it.
So plan for this week:
Wednesday: Swim squad, pilates
Thursday: 5km walk
Friday: 5km walk
Saturday: Swim squad, 5km walk
Sunday: Marshalling at a bike race/trip to Julian's Berry Farm (Whakatane)

That's really cool MrsH! And Babe- hope the second tri starts being kinder to you soon!
KK- I am too scared to ride my bike! Though may go out to the Karapiro bike path while Phil runs sometime, cos I really miss it. You've been doing amazingly- lots of my walks are only 3-4km, and I'm only doing 1-2km in the pool at a time.
My goal is to keep my November streak going til the end of the month- so long as I do SOMETHING it counts :) The plan for the next few days is:
- Stretching tonight (had a wee swim in the am)
- Swim or gym + walk and preggy yoga tomorrow
- Swim on Friday
- Gym + short swim on Saturday (lasy weekend of gym membership)
- Walk or bike ride on Sunday
Obviously I won't be stupid. If I'm tired, I won't exercise. But since I'm feeling good, I thought it would be fun to keep the streak going.

Another week, another 4 - 5 workouts.
Workout today consisted of rowing 500m, 50 step-ups, 50 push-ups, 50 knee-ups, 50 back extensions and what was supposed to be 20 turkish get-ups but I did 6 and then realised that I wasn't supposed to lie flat on my back (duh).
Weighing in at 74.9kgs which I'm quite happy with considering I'm lighter now (and probably will be at Full Term) than I was BEFORE I was pregnant with Son#1.
How's everyone else going?

Exercise update from me - I've moved swim squads, swimming twice a week about 2km and a bit these days (2.1km today) but certainly feeling myself slowing down and being more weighty in the water.
I wore a sports bra under my togs today as I was showing a bit too much boob and it was a good idea cos my belly brings down the top of my togs too. Got to make my tankini!
I've been walking a bit but not as much as I would have liked, mostly because I've worked a lot this week and been quite tired. On a day off today from working Saturday and have been for a short walk with a mummy friend. Going for another walk tomorrow, although I'm feeling I'm getting a waddle on!

As for me, I'm happy to be back into it after a couple of busy weeks at work. Three workouts this week and one more tomorrow morning.
One question: Does anyone think running can exacerbate stretchmarks?

Awesome Kel, which Half IM??
I did my last pregnancy run- 5km at the Tinman Triathlon. Was happy with how I did- kept it sensible, but still pushed a little, and was faster than some non-preggo (though, to be fair, they'd done the swim and bike too). Now I'm ready to give up- it's just too hard on the legs, and I want to work on getting my hips nice and loose.
Swimming is getting harder again, which is annoying. I think baby is squishing me so I get really burpy and can't breathe properly. But I love being in the water, so will keep at it!

Hi
Just thought I'd write some words of encouragement for you guys. I gave birth 14 weeks ago to my wee man and exercised through pretty much the whole pregnancy. I Crossfitted like MrsH, just scaled down my workouts and took it easy. I think its fine to give anything a go - just listen to your body cos it'll definitely tell you when it's getting too much. I found I got out of breath really easily so had to slow right down. And some exercises like squats I stopped fairly early cos they just felt too loose and running with my boobs was a no-no!
Even though my boy arrived 4 weeks early by emergency C-section, I truly believe exercise throughout pregnancy helped in my recovery (I was walking around upright the day after surgery which shocked the nurses) and my body has bounced back post pregnancy. I never did weigh myself but I'm wearing my old clothes and my tummy is flat. I've just started back at the gym which is great, albeit humbling to start right at the beginning again!
I wish everyone a healthy pregnancy.

Well done roo :) Hope you and your wee man are still doing well.
How are the rest of you ladies? I have been slowing down a bit, partly because I have been doing a lot more being away from work and on holiday, so less time/energy/need for formal "exercise". Done with running though, and even walking is a bit of an effort, but still enjoying the pool- and wishing I could justify hiring an elliptical for at home! And going to preggy yoga too.
Just had a look at my workout log for the last few months, and figured out I'd averaged about 30 mins a day since getting UTD. Not a lot given I used to average more like 90 mins a day (of much more intense exercise), but every little bit counts. Hopefully I can keep that up for the next 4-9 weeks!

HAH!! I wondered where everyone got to!
30 minutes a day is still a really good effort; your baby (and your midwife) will thank you for it.
How's everyone else doing? Good I hope. The heat doesn't help things but I'm lucky in that I'm at the gym so it's nice and airconned.
I had a bit of a break over the christmas period (only had one workout) but back into it last week. Today's workout was 6 rounds of 200m run, 10 thrusters (10kgs - front squat with a shoulder press at the top) and 10 pullups (assisted). Reasonably happy with it.
