Never used a sling with other kidies, but thinking about giving it a go, wondering if it is a viable option after an elective c/s thou and wondered if others found a sling better or not better than a capsule/snap & go after c/s
and whats the best sling for a newborn, I had a look at slingbabies website and its not that clear on what is good for newborn, I personally cant imagine/dont plan on carrying a baby much bigger than 3months so just need one for this early stage. |

I think a stretchy wrap like a Moby is good for a wee newborn. Can't help you on the c-section though..

A moby would be great as it gives good support all around your body. I used mine after my c-sect no worries. -------------

| Thanks I watched a u-tube on moby and it is quite up high where the fabric sits (higher than my front pack) so looks like it will avoid the sorest part (which for me last c/s was half way between belly button/pubic bone) in the newborn position......off to trademe I go might be handy or might not work, but good to have on hand as an option too capsule/wheels sometimes they cant go all places. |

Hi there
I had a c-section and found the moby to be the best. You can tie it higher up when buns is little so it does not rub on your wound. I had a front pack and a pouch sling too but found these uncomfortable in the first couple of months. My wound was really itchy and I hated having anything rubbing on it. I recommend the moby so much! It is the most versatile a comfortable sling and I used it non stop til my son was about 5 or 6 months.  ------------- http://lilypie.com">

Thanks ladies, think I will sew a copy of the moby style wrap found instructions on google as basically it says its a length of stretch material 4.5-5m long by 30-40cm wide.
Can any of those with a wrap sling please let me know the approx measurements and if the material is 2 way stretch or 1 way stretch. As its a much cheaper option for me. Looking at cotton/elastane fabrics. Does it have a tag to say material composition? DH reckons I wont use it and doesnt want me to waste heaps of $$$ but since its just a length of material and I have a machine...... |

Mine just says cotton, but it's basically a cotton jersey material. You wouldn't want too much stretch. Could you ask at a Slingbabies meeting or Facebook page for specifics perhaps? I know I lot of people do make their own. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

Thanks in advance for measuring it, reality is baby is now here he is 2 1/2weeks old. he sleeps well in his basinette, or if he awake I put him in his bouncer, so I can get jobs done/eat in peace etc. Been on a few errands/drives on my own and found just carry him in my arms into the shop was easiest, or when I went to supermarket he was sleeping and put the capsule on the trolley. Question is ..If you are putting baby into sling on the footpath, do you sit in the passenger seat to put sling on and baby in it? It seems to me like a bit of a juggling act, and as I dont have one yet, do have the front pack in car and wheels but deceided it was easier just to carry baby in blanket than faff around with getting anything out of the boot, bee it wheels or front pack. |

when i was using a Moby, I would pre-tie it before I left the house!
If I needed to tie it when I got out of the car I would go around to the passenger side, standing up on the footpath, I would put the ends of the wrap on the passenger seat and try to tie it like that so the ends didn't drag on the ground. To be honest was a bit of a PITA. But so comfy to wear. Have a manduca now, and like everyone else seems to be, I am a total convert |

I used my moby so much that I would tie it at home without baby in it so I could see in the mirror. Then I would go out in the car, go round to car seat and just pop him in while using the car window to see he was in straight. went for shop up at warehouse this morn, bubs was asleep so put carseat on click it wheels. found this good. I dont think im a sling person, I just dont see how I could manage carrying carkeys, handbag,etc and having a spare arm to select goods and carry to counter to purchase,and carry the weight of the baby when bending down to bottom shelves etc
Thanks for your help and words of wisdom ladies think I will stick with pram or capsule & wheels for now. I like the idea of cuddles in the sling, but I get plenty of cuddles around home anyway, so hoping to go with combining nap time with shoppping when he can sleep peacefully in pram and I can be arms free. |
