Can anyone recommend one? It doesn't have to be flash or the best quality. Basically I just want something I can put in the car for those odd times DS falls asleep in there, rather than me trying to transfer him to bed (which fails 9 times out of ten) or me staying in the car with him.

we have had a few sets at work due to epilepsy.
the one I liked the most was this one for $299, I liked that I could see what she is doing even in the dark due to infrared night camera function
http://www.babycity.co.nz/oricom-sc700-digital-video-baby-monitor.html - Oricom 700 video one
it is basically the video version of this one though which is still good (we have it at a differnet work house) http://www.babycity.co.nz/oricom-baby-monitor-sc210.html - oricom 210
we have also had this one $129 did the job of hearing and being able to talk to them but did get a bit hit and miss if outside due to brick walls on house

the ones I hated the most were the Tommee Tipee brand ones, they were staticky and did not work through bricks.
[she often lays on her bed during the day so if we are outisde with someone else we clip the parent unit onto ourselves so can still hear/see seizures]

I have the Oricom Secure200 and really recommend it! It has two way sound, and I love the Parent Unity which has sound and light alerts, shows you the temperature of the nursery (or wherever your baby is!), you can turn the baby light or lullabys on from the parent monitor, it even has a torch on it for sneaking in to check on baby.
Parent Unit is battery or mains powered - and the battery is great, lasts about 6 hours which seems to be longer than others I've heard of.
Was very reasonably priced - no video or movement monitor though, but if you're not too worried about either of these I would recommend this one.

We have a video one. I use it for exactly that same car trick you want it for - essential with two bubs cos the awake one wont sit in the car quietly and transferring fails 100% of the time with DD1
We got ours off 1-day. I can have a look at the brand tomorrow. I just wanted to say do get one, it's awesome!
And video is good for leaving in the car cos you can see her face start to pink up if she starts getting hot.

Yeah that'd be awesome if you could T-Rex. Good to hear it works well in the way we want it to too
