Our DS (17 months) has started screeching/screaming/squealing ususallywhen he is really excited but even when he is bored. We are going for the ignoring approach which stops it but hasn't stopped him doing it again and again! It is getting to us a bit. Any ideas from others who have experienced it? From experience with our DS, the more you try to stop him doing something the funner the game becomes for him.

Hes just experimenting with new and difeffernt sounds and volumes. Hes trying to communicate with you! Copy him, its fun and he will learn something and feel valued like hes contributing!!

I'd be keen on anyones ideas for this problem too. My daughter screams so, so loudly - ignoring her doesn't make a difference. It can be when she is happy but is mainly when she is annoyed or tired. A friend suggested time out, but I feel that 18 months old is too early for time out, and I don't feel that it needs 'punishment.'

My little one is doing the same! My sister-in-law has said to try to stop it by not giving her attention for what she is screaming about -e.g. walk away. But also physically show that you don't like the noise. I'm trying it out - bit of an experiment really. The hard thing is to be consistent...so I'll give it a couple of weeks and let you know how it goes :) so far it's lessened. I've been telling her that it's not a nice noise and covering my ears with a sad face on.
If she's screaming because she is not getting her own way I do the above and then say I'm not going to listen to you until you use your words - she is only 2.5 I'm not expecting miracles :) but holding out hope :) he he
I'm pregnant with no.2 now (only 8 weeks) so really tired now, it's hard to keep up the motivation and energy to do anything at the moment - and remember to :) (preggy brain) but trying :)
