Our DS1 is about 3 weeks into TT. He's been really good so far (touch wood).
He's just started to wake up screaming at about 11pm, wanting to go pee. He is very upset about it and it's about 1/2hr after our bed time which is a bit anoying. I've heard of parents doing a forced toilet stop just before they go to bed. Anyone tried this? I figure that you just pick the kid up and take them to the loo. But you've got to get undies off and on, so how much do you wake the kid? Do you carry them both ways, or let them walk? Do they have trouble going back to sleep? I guess if we wake him up too much we'll just end up with the screaming starting at 10:30 rather than 11 :( ------------- http://lilypie.com">  http://lilypie.com">

| We do it with Daniel and it works great for us. We just get him up at 9:30.. we don't wanna leave it too late cause we wanna make it earlier and earlier over time (he's only just night time TT). He just wears pjs, and we put a distant light on rather than the toilet light so its not all bright. He goes straight back to sleep afterwards. He walks there unless he's really out to it then I carry him and he walks back |

DS has just night trained himself aswell and I just put pj bottoms on him - no undies so it easier to pull them down. I pick him up out of bed and carry him stand him at the toilet he wees I pull his pants up and I carry him back to bed and he goes straight back to sleep. My boy now does his own toilet stops, accompanied by crying the whole time. Crazy lol He does it all himself too, doesn't need any help but the crying is funny 
We tried doing the toileting before we went to bed but it upset him more cause we woke him & he said he had no wee's, and he'd be dry all night so he must have been right. With hotter weather and more water during the day he's happy to be woken to go to the loo & he goes straight back to sleep. we have to do this with Ella as well. Have been gradually pulling it forward so now I take her at 8.45 and she then sleeps through until 6.30/7 and wakes up dry. She is quite a deep sleeper so basically I have to carry her to the toilet, take off her knickers and then put them back on and carry her back to bed and she is normally half a sleep while this is all happening. Some nights she is in such a deep sleep that she doesn't even remember it happening the next morning ------------- Mum to Ella (5) and Tom (2) |

I TT'd DD a year ago but she still hasn't mastered staying dry at night and for that reason I did try waking her to go to the toilet before I went to bed at night. It was a disaster, she woke up completely and then refused to do anything on the toilet and then took about 2 hours to go back to sleep. I tried it one more time after that and had the same experience so decided I wouldn't bother again! ------------- http://lilypie.com">

When did you guys start the night toileting thing? (Taking your sleepy child to do wees on the toilet late at night). Were there certain signs from your children when they were ready? Did you just do it when you started toilet training during the day? ------------- http://lilypie.com">

I had no intention of starting the night training as DS's nappy in the morning was so wet so was happy to just keep him in nappies overnight (he had been day TT for a year)but he decided one evening that he didn't need to wear a nappy so we tried it and he wet the bed. The next night I tried to talk him into wearing a nappy but he was adiment he didn't need one so not wanting to discourage it I let him go nappy less again and again a wet bed. He wet the bed for 4 nights and has now gone 12 nights dry so I think he's now mastered it. I'm surprised that he has done it so easy and quickly considering his nappies were still really wet in the mornings. I think once they make their minds up that they want to do it, it's alot easier. We never woke our children up late at night to wee but made sure we took them immediately they woke in the morning to the toilet. Each child is different just take your lead from them as to when they are ready. But from experience you would start trying to take them out of night naps 3 - 6 months after being TT during the day but some will be sooner and other longer Goodluck from an interested Gran

we take mr 4 to toilet b4 about 9.30pm sometimes he doesnt need to go and we have put him back to bed and 5 min later he takes himself. since he was 3 and didnt want nappies at night he only had a few accidents. hes now got to the stage if we are later taking him he starts to take himself.
