dont get cavelair bremworth (spelling prob wrong)
its horrid for staining and its a manky wool type one so it pills badly and fluffs, so if you stain/wet the carpet and pat it dry it goes all fluffy and yuck and stays that way

My FIL is a carpet layer has been in the business for something like 45 years he will be doing ours in the place we are shifting to in a few weeks. We are getting cavalier bremworth extra heavy duty 100% wool or 80/20 loop pile as it is long lasting. Don't get  too dark or too light as it shows up every mark. Stay away from cut pile or nylon as it looks like crap after awhile

We have nylon carpet and I won't ever have anything different. We have a dark dark grey (i love the look of it, I just have to vaccuum everyday as we have a ginger coloured dog!, it is heavy duty (designed for stairs and hallways - high traffic areas) and it is from Norman Ellison. I can have a look at the details later if you are interested?
Anything comes off our carpet, even playdough just wipes off, it is fantastic and I highly recommend it! Also we live in Northland where wool beetle?? are a huge issue, so we dont have to worry about them as they only live in wool carpet.
Make sure that you invest in the thick grade underlay, it makes a world of difference to your carpet.
We used Carpet One, we found them pretty good and the bonus is you get flybuys!!!

We have a heavy duty solution dyed nylon as well and it is great. Ours is a dark brown/black colour and also requires regular vacuuming (everyday with little people) but stains are not an issue.
We also used Carpet One and were not happy with the service but they are franchised. (Ours was the Howick/Pakuranga Branch). It pays to ask for recommendations for your area I guess.

I second the investing in good underlay, it was the best advice we received. (Our carpet feels incredibly thick and soft + great insulation + better wearing).
