DH has commented quite a few times that since DD2 was born, DD1 has become more whingy and whiney and (in his words), a 'sook'.
My view is that its totally normal - she is a toddler pushing boundaries, and that to a degree she has been like this for the last 6 months anyway. I think its just that when I was pregnant (when it started), I could distract her with other things or sort out what she wanted more easily than I can now so he notices it more. Plus he is around the house a lot more in the last two months, therefore thinks it happens more often. She is quite clingy to me which makes the whining worse at times (say when I need to go somewhere) but again, this was happening well before I had DD2 and part of it is her worrying I am going to leave for a few days again as I did when DD2 came along - totally normal to me, I think it will slowly get better, something DH disagrees with. Is it totally normal behaviour? And what's the best way to deal with the whining? Im taking the approach of ignoring it most of the time or if she is whining for something, explaining that she needs to ask then I will sort it out for her etc Thoughts? ------------- http://lilypie.com" rel="nofollow">

Sounds totally normally to me- DS- 2yrs whinges and moans all the time- hes trying to communicate and gets frustrated that he cant. I encourage him to use the words he can say- instead of pulling at us and going "eh ehe he" to be picked up, DH has tried really hard to teach him to say "Up please Daddy/Mumma",...so now we say "use your words" and he laughs and says "up peeez" - so much nicer than moaning!
Your #2 is still very little- it took our #1 over 6 weeks to adjust to having a new baby in the house. Her behaviour turned shocking when her baby brother was born. A new baby and all that that brings- tired parents/ less attention and time with the older child/ chnage of rountiues etc, is a massive shock to them- and prob even harder for you DD to understand as she still young hersle. Lots of cuddles and praising the good behaviuor. It will get better! |

Exactly where DS is atm. Drives me up the wall some days, but can be distracted most of the time. Also he is having lots of tantrum. Like Kellz said, we are trying to encourage him to use his words so we know what he wants and that can help. If we get what he's saying. ------------- http://alterna-tickers.com">

My DS is only 15 months and is also very whingy - particularly when I am in the kitchen. It is driving me crazy. He has quite a few words but encouraging him to use them doesn't work - I think he is still too young?

normal. We have a 17m gap & DD did the same. Entertainment, distraction & time. We also started using baby sign and put her in preschool 2 days a week - her 'own' time and a special treat which she LOVES ------------- http://lilypie.com">

We had the same thing and found when I left the room to settle the baby he'd freak out and whine and so I started letting him come with me sometimes and other times I'd go in to the room and pop back out 5 secs later and tell him how wonderful he was for playing on his own etc and then I did this for a few days (so both letting him come into the room and popping in and out) and he starting coping a bit better - or it could have been just he got used to it.
I think in another 6 weeks or so your #1 will be much more used to things too. My DS used to get naughty doing stuff he shouldn't, trying to hit the baby or just being generally silly and whiney when I was feeding the baby but that's all stopped and I think quite awhile back, so maybe around 3 mths. Though that's probably when feeding went from 20 mins to 5 mins so that most likely helped!! ------------- http://alterna-tickers.com">
