Hi All when I was in labour with my daughter 2 years ago I was mistakenly given an injection of Oxytocin (usually given after birth to help expel the placenta) instead of pethadine. My placenta ruptured and we were very lucky that both my daughter and myself survived with no ill effects.

My question is to anyone who has had placental abruption in a previous pregnancy/labour and has gone on to have another baby. Did your history effect your pregnancy or labour at all? I am worried that maybe my uterus will now be weaker in some way? Will I still be able to have a normal vaginal delivery?

Thanks in advance

I am trying for vbac after placental abruption, mine happened during labour coz of short cord and my midwife is happy for me to try for a vbac (had c sect) so i ASSUME that there is no greater risk however I am interested in hearing what others have to say!

Maybe I will raise this when I see the OB haha! I hadn't really been worried that the abruption would have damaged anything but now I am lol!

I had an assumed abruption with DS1 (just started heamoraging for no reason) and had a straightforward normal (albeit early) vaginal birth 14 months later . TBH I was more concerned with my c sect scar rupturing as I was getting quite a bit of pain under it during labour!

Oh and I asked both my mw and ob if having one abruption meant you had a higher chance of having another and they both said no, that it was just generally bad luck if it happens so you have the same risk as everyone else next time round
