i am looking at getting a new car - my daughter's carseat (evenflow symphony) has the isofix connector things.
so for people currently using isofix - is it any good?
also - how can i tell whether a car will have it or not? most people on trademe havent listed it in the car section. is it pretty standard on cars made after a certain year?

Isofix is AWESOME. We have same carseat and it is SO easy to put in and out. Best invention ever!
I have no idea which cars do and don't have it....

Cars after 2001 are supposed to have it. 2001 is maybe maybe not, so 2002+ (I have a 2001 that doesn't have it).
We have it in our 2003 car but haven't used it.

We have the Evenflo symphony seats and use the isofix functionality. It's great, so easy and no seatbelt straps in the way.
Sorry not sure which cars do and don't have it.

We too have the same seat with Isofix and it is great. We take the seat in and out reasonably regularly and it is so easy to get a good install very quickly each time.

Modern cars are supposed to have them, but it varies so much. We found Toyota Corolla does, but the Camry doesn't. The Holden Barina does, but the Cruz doesn't. Lots of bigger cars e.g. Kia Sportage don't - I think because the seats fold down. So using the age of a car is not at all helpful, and it's not consistent in brands either.
I hate not having Isofix in our older, bigger car, it's such a pain swapping seats over compared to Isofix.

I thought it was standard on Jap cars after 2005. And standard on Euro cars way ealier than that.

If you're looking at a car you should be able to reach in and feel, or lots have a little tag on the seat saying isofix.
I too LOVE it. We swap seats heaps between our car and mums, and it just clips in. I know it's installed right and if you're rear facing it is fabulous as you don't need all the straps so makes it way easier to rear-face longer.

Just a wee heads up, if your carseat is installed with isofix, keep a seatbelt locking clip in the car too just in case you end up needing to swap cars unexpectedly. We had to take our kids home in another car (belonging to a good samaritan) after we totalled our car in an accident recently and the car didn't have isofix.

Yep LOVE isofix :-) We have a 2002 subaru and it has it. Mine doesn't have little tags to tell you though, so you just need to have a feel between the seats for the metal hook, should be around the seatbelt fixings.

Our 2004 mitsi doesn't have it. Brand new Ford Teritory doesn't either. You've just got to check the car.
