Heya we are going to be flying with DD who will be 8-9mths to CHCH soon and just wanting to know if you are able to take a stroller or pram on Air NZ flights?
We currently have a MB urban jungle am guessing that is way to big to take, so am thinking of hiring a stroller to take as we are only going for a few days. Can the stroller be taken on board as carry on luggage?

Most airlines let you take a stroller or buggy but it usually goes in the hold at the last minute. They'll take it off you when you board your flight, make sure they put it in a proper baggage sack, and then they'll bring them off to the airbridge just after you land.
It usually works pretty smoothly and we've not had any problems with air NZ. did have a problem with a flight to Portugal where the buggy wasn't bagged and we lost our sun & rain cover in transit.
we have a mountain buggy btw. Maybe an urban. Wasn't a problem.

AirNZ wont let you take it on the plane as carry on domestically, but you can take lots of extra luggage with a baby/kid. Stroller, cot, carseat don't count as luggage per se. (Great for stashing your extra shopping in!) If you take your pram you usually check it in as oversize and they bag it for you, size isn't a issue. .I tend to put any cover extra that a looseish in our luggage just to be safe. (Same with car seat straps)
We usually use the trolley as a pram round the airport (assuming DD is sitting), or the sling saves the hassle of last minute dropping off.

You can take 1 bag (less than 23kg) and 2 baby items per baby (pram/portacot/carseat etc). They are pretty good about taking prma off you at the gate, but double check when you checkin because they can sometimes be a bit random.
ANother thing you can do is hire prams/carseats/cots from babyonthemove at most airports, saves the hassle of travelling with them :-)
