Just wondering if anyone's children are battling with bad eczema and intolerances. Our little girl is allergic to dustmites and a naturopath recently discovered through testing she has many intolerances including dairy and gluten. We are under a specialist but am constantly on creams and Meds. Help

Hi, my little girl has really bad excezma all over her body at the moment, haven't had her tested yet, just in the process of getting that done..
did you get your tests done through the naturopath or your gp?
which creams are you using...I have the fatty cream for when its not too bad and steroid for the really bad patches but not keen at all on using it long term..have just ordered some of the "pot of gold" cream to try too, have heard good things about that..

I've been through a specialist so know the results about the dustmites, went through a naturopath re other things and he has diagnosed her as gluten dairy etc. I'm glad that I'm not the only one out there I hate it. Hope you can get your bubba sorted soon

Yep <sigh>
We had some of our son's intolerances picked up by naturopath, others by food trials I did.
Seriously, do you own food trials, ie cut out gluten & dairy and see if it helps her skin. G/F isn't cheap but there is a much wider range than when I started 3 years ago. Also a lot of G/F has dairy in it.
Also when doing the G/F trial. Test separately on oat as it might be just wheat that she has issues with.
Our naturopath had a whole pile of intolerances for me as well & I am so much better if I avoid those foods

How many weeks since u cut out dairy/gluten- can take more than 2 weeks for all diary to clear the system.

What diary did u give her? Often people can handle things like cottage cheese but not milk, yogurt, cheese. If she reacted to the dairy then I would leave it out indefinatly,...maybe there is somehting else that needs to be eliminated too. Have u considered hair testing,..or is that the type of testing your naturopath did?

Ive not had the hair testing done but know lots of people get good results from it.
After my DD had had 5 skin infections in her eczema and 5 courses of antibiotics (plus all the creams) I went to a natuarl health practioner for help - she was 21 months then. We eliminated a lot of things from her diet - a main ones were dairy and sugar,...and the improvement was amazing. She still has a tendancy to get dry skin on her torso ( the area most badly affected by the eczema) but hasnt has eczema since then. She now eats a perfectly normla diet not excluding anything and has done or years now- shes 5 1/2 now

It is definitely worth cutting out as Kellz said. Cooper couldn't tolerate any dairy & was on neocate but at just over three he's absolutely fine on it

If you get your GP to refer to Medlab the allergy testing should be free. On confirmation your Doctor will refer you with a form to WINZ for the disability allowance (not income/means teasted) that way you get the extra $$ too buy the gluten free/dairy foods and get the gluten free on prescription after your child has had a biopsy done.
The bowel lining usually takes 5-7days to repair/regrow the villa (lining) which is damaged by gluten.
Anyway hope this helps
