So Mr Almost 3 has always been a good sleeper... until two weeks ago when we had the combo of a new sibling and severe ear infections and tonsilitis (which both came at the same time).

Now he wakes several times in the night... wanting a drink, wanting a cuddle, wanting to get up at 5am etc.

Any suggestions?

He's also started burrowing under his covers and I wonder if he's scared as he seems it but at the same time, I'm reluctant to get into bad habits esp. seems he's been so good up until now.

We got DS a music player he can turn on when he woke up. He wakes up turns it on and then goes back to sleep. We filled it up with music and stories.

His sleep issue arose from several windy nights scaring him so the music drowned out the noise.

But given your son has a new sibling, thats likely the cause. If so its probably just a phase that he will work through. If hes been good till now, he might just need a few weeks of extra care in the middle of he night (not what you want with a new sibling though I'm sure)

If that doesn't work, perhaps a reward chart for staying asleep?

Good luck

How about a night light on a timer, set it so it turns on when he is allowed to get up? Like the Gro Clock but much cheaper
Make a huge deal out of his new light.
If you think he may be scared perhaps the light could stay on and he can get up when it goes off.

Another idea is to get him a toy, tell him a story about how the toy keeps getting up at night for a drink/cuddle etc and ask if he could look after the toy and make sure the toy stays in bed with him all night.

Our DD is much younger at 22 months, but we have a very soft lamp on in her room overnight, she has books in her cot and we sometimes hear her awake reading to herself in the middle of the night. I think I night light would greatly help him feel more secure at night time :)
