Well, we officially started TTC on Sunday. All very exciting!! I've been off the pill since June getting ready. And remembering my folic acid tablets every morning.
Then Wednesday DH came home to say that he's been head hunted again for a new job.............in Adelaide!!! He's off meeting the guy whose flown over now! I'm in two minds about the whole thing! Yay for him, but boo hoo for me and my (our) baby plans!!! And it's not because I wouldn't want our child to be born with an Aussie passport! I guess I'll just have to wait and see what happens..........and go back to fun ol condoms!!! |

wow! its awesome that your hubby has been head hunted for a job- adelaide looks so nice from what i've seen on the ads on tv! but arrh! talk about timing. what if you already are preg?! goodluck with it all.

Hey there is nothing wrong with being an Aussie, I am one very proud to be Australian. If you do have a bubs born in Oz and you both are NSZ citizens your child can become an NZ citizen through it's parents. Have a look at the internal affairs website about that stuff. I have dual citizinship as my mum is a kiwi and to be in the army (yes I was silly and went into the army) but am a true blue ozzie, and very proud of my ozzie passport. ------------- I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived! |

| it may never be the PERFECT timing - I say stick with your plans and what will be will be - and who knows the move may be easier with a baby to look after when you get there..would be wonderful way of meeting people etc.. |

and i know that this is the smallest side of things, but as far as support and family assitance goes, i think you are eligible after being there a certain amount of time and it is far better than the NZ scheme.. not a biggie but certainly helps! good luck, how exciting! ------------- Janine and her 2 cool chicks, Paris & Ayja

my BIL just had a baby in Adelaide and they had fantastic care. Also, not sure because you guys will be NZers, but they got a $7,000 (i think - came from MIL who does exagerate) tax thing from the government,. I do know that daycare is in high demand so I would book well in advance...conception stage maybe!
But Adelaide is a nice place and I know a few people that I could maybe get you in touch with if you do move there! |

mm, my sis her partner and her kids moved over there a year ago and became eligible for the family assisstance type thing a few months back and she said it's wonderful ------------- Janine and her 2 cool chicks, Paris & Ayja

Well the meeting last night went well. It's a really good package, good salary, car, medical/dental, accomdation for 1 year and relocation grant. The contract is for a minimum of 2 years.
We're going to think about it this week. I need to see if my quals are accepted in Adelaide (anyone know, I'm a teacher?) even though I wouldn't need to work finacially, I can see myself getting very bored. Also, working would be a way to meet some friends! The baby plans would have to be put on hold though :( At least for the first year. I don't think I'd cope without having family and friends around at the start. However, no decisions have been made yet............... |

| not for sure, but i think aus and nz have a reciprocal agreement re:qualifications. Not a hundred percent sure as US doesn't accept our BEd qualification as teachewrs are four year trained not three. grad degrees are okay I think for US. as for aus, not sure either. should be okay, |

Julie I think you should be ok. Have a look at the south Australia gove website as they do have different laws for different states. But if you can't work there is so much to do in south Australia - vineyards are a big thing there and you could walk through all of them and do heaps of sampling. And they always need people to pick the grapes and you get paid mega bucks for doing it over there and the thing about the baby and then you get $7000 is true but I didn't think it was that much $$ I thought it was closer to $5000 but with other things on top of that it could add up to $7000 or even more, that is a federal thing so the Australian government website would have that info. ------------- I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived! |
