Hi guys,
I'm wondering if there is any medicine I can give to my 3 year old DS to help relieve his horrible cold symptoms. He has a terrible runny nose and is sneezing a lot and also very watery eyes.
I'd like to give him some relief but Im not sure if there are any brands of cold medication that are ok for his age? They all seem to be for 6 yrs and over?
Has anyone else used something recently that helped their child this age?
I'm currently giving him regular pamol and have a vicks vapouriser going in his room.
Thanks.

There is not much you can give 3 year olds! You can use a kids nasal spray which will help to clear up his nose. If he has got a cough you can give Clinicians Prospan syrup we give this to DD who is almost 4. Go to the chemist and have a look at whats available.

DS has a cold and the pharmist gave me this product called Kids de-stuff which is suppose to help with blocked noses etc. My son hates pamol etc but will happily take this.

heres a link to it

I second the saline spray and there's also a cough medicine you can give which is natural, no sugar etc. Sorry I've forgotten the name but I would suggest you chat to your pharmacist anyway and they can recommend the right stuff.

You can give otrivin to them though I don't know how that would go spraying it up the nose. I tend to try lemon and honey drinks for coughs.

We use Clinicians Prospan and I've heard about the Kids destuff as well but havent tried it.

The Prospan works well enough to allow our kids to get a bit of sleep without coughing.

You can make your own saline easily and we use a syringe. I third the Clinicians Prospan, all natural and really effective. Vicks on their feet helps stop coughing too.

We use:
Otrivin junior twice a day for blocked noses (max for 3 days), it is safe to use from 2 years

Weleda organic cough elixir is amazing for helping coughs

Inner health plus immune booster powder

Manuka honey in milk before bed

Olbas oil on pillow at night time to help stuffy noses and unwind

Good old home made chicken soup made with organic chicken - don't know how or why but it works!

And of course pamol for pain relief.

If you pay a visit to your pharmacy, they can help you out with an antihisthamine that can control the runny nose and watery eyes. Lots of vitamin C and fluids, lots of warm drinks and wrap him up warm and take him to the playground, it will jiggle the mucus out of his lungs when he gets moving about!

something else we've discovered is that a chopped up raw onion under or next to the bed does amazing things for blocked or runny noses. I hate the smell, but it really helps especially overnight.
