Any mums with babies who used to sleep a lot or still do sleep much more than others around?
My 4.5 month old sleeps 11-12 hours without feeding overnight. Has 3 day naps, morning about 2.5hours, afternoon up to 3 hours and another about 45minutes. In 24 hours she sleeps about 18 hours. She is only awake between naps for 1 hour to 1hour 15 minutes. By 1 hour 15 minutes she's almost overtired. She's active when awake and alert but I feel that she should be up longer during the day as other babies her age are. I'm stuck at home every day with a sleeping baby while the other mums are out and about.

sounds like what both of my 2 were like (apart from they woke up heaps during the night)..both really good day sleepers. Even as they got older they still ended to have a longer day sleep than most of their peers....DD has just turned 5 and she still has a nap for at least 2 hrs during the weekend and DS ( 2 1/4) would still sleep up to 3 hrs during the day if I let him (gets woken up to do the school pick ups). Plus both sleep 12 hrs at night and are in bed by 6.30.

My advice would be just enjoy it....the baby stage .won't last forever and when she is an active toddler you will really appreciate having a good sleeper

My friend's wee girl was the same. My friend ended up going back to work early cos she was so bored at home.

My first was like that, was still sleeping 18 - 20 hours a day at 8m. She's almost 4 now and I've only *just* dropped her long afternoon nap.
Meanwhile, #2 is making up for my easy ride, she wakes many many times during the night and starts the day well before the sunshine.

Wow Chickoin up to 20hours out of 24 that's heaps. So up to 8 months was her awake time only about 1 hour between long naps? Did your one meet milestones on time (I fear mine sleeps so much that she won't learn). And how did you deal with it? Did you just stay home to let baby sleep (mine WONT sleep in the pram or car). Only likes her cot

on the milestone thing....it didn't affect mine at all, in fact they both crawled and walked very early (9-10mths). I think it is because they were/are so active that they needed the extra sleep. I stayed home a lot with my 1st but with #2 he really liked to sleep in the moby so he slept in there while we were out.

yep my daughter slept through the night from 2 weeks old, and would sleep up to 4 hours at a time in the day..totally normal :) I did go out though, and she slept wherever we were, in her carseat, pram or moby wrap it was really great! as she grew and only had 2 sleeps a day, i found that as long as one of those naps was in her bed at home she could have the other one wherever we were and shed be fine. my advice is to try going out with bubs while awake and if she sleeps while out then great! My daughter is now 20 months old and will still crash out anywhere in the pram with a bit of rocking and her fave blanky :)

With two kids now I can really understand the term that every kid is different. My first, a girl loooooved her sleep and still does. Slept 12-14 hours at night + great big day naps of 2+ hours each. I thought everyone was the same...until my second, a boy came a long. He won't sleep past 6 am, naps for no longer than 30 mins in the day...luckily though he does sleep all night. There are just so different!!

Sorry for the late reply, Madisonsmummy! Jody didn't get all of her milestones as far as gross motor skills at the same age as other babies, but she got there in the end. She was 13 months when she first started crawling (commando) and 19 months before she started walking. She's almost 4 now and she's just like everyone else her age (although a little more careful when climbing etc, but I think that's just her personality).
From memory she used to sleep about 14 hours a night, get up for breakfast (or breastmilk), go back to bed until lunchtime, then have 1 or 2 more naps with an hour or less in between then she would be awake for a whole 2 hours in the evening!
We moved to Aussie when she was 4 months old so we didn't really have friends so we stayed in a lot. At 6 months old we joined a weekly playgroup and she would stay awake for that 2 hours and have a massive nap afterwards.
I always planned other outings (shopping) for after her lunch, as she got older she would stay awake for about 1.5hours if we were out and just make up for it once we got home.
