Hey Guys,
Question regarding our almost 3 year old!! He has suddenly decided he does not want to go to bed anymore and comes up with any exsuse to get up again his most common ones is that something is sore\hurt or he doesnt feel well and is asking for medicine (which he has only had occasionally for teething/fever etc).
How would you approah this?
Also we are expecting our second child in two weeks which we've been talking to him about and he seems to understand (as much as a 3 year old can be expected) so not sure if this would add to his not wanting to sleep.
Thanks in advance :)

Hi Hadlam I totally relate :) We have 3 kids now and each of them have gone through this stage :) especially the first two when a new baby is due soon. Our excuses ranged from sore body parts (to which I replied - okay shall we take you to the hospital now? which soon sorted that out - they did not want to go to hospital), "I'm hungry", "I'm thirsty", "I need to go to the toilet", I'm not tired - the list goes on :)
Sometimes it's just testing boundaries as well and while its hard to see them cry - tough love and not putting up with their excuses is the way to go. Unless you're concerned that there may be something wrong - you know your little one best so if you think a doctors visit is in order then go for it - it may also help 'dispell' that myth and you can confidently say that the doctor has said he is fine :).
When my little guy doesn't want to go to bed lately, i've told him I will wait by the door until he is asleep and it doesn't usually take that long for him to nod off, and I think he likes knowing that i"m there.
Hope this helps :) There are some great articles on sleep on this site and also - there are expert answers to questions like this too - so have a roam around here too :)
Good luck!

We started rewarding DS with a sticker for his reward chart if he went straight to sleep without any nonsense. At first we gave them if it was with only a couple of excuses (he was averaging 6 different excuses a night and screaming for me). Then as he got better (a fortnight probably) we raised the expectations until he only got the sticker if there was no excuses or screaming.
10 stickers earned a hotwheels car, which he would then sleep with till the next 10 stickers!
He then got to the point he told us he didn't derserve a sticker some nights, or he would rather have me sit beside his bed than have a sticker, which I oblige once a week.
