Thought I'd put this question out there and see if anyone has any suggestions. I've been going to bed rather late - about 11ish which is late for me, only reason being I'm not tired before then. It takes ages for me to actually get to sleep, then I'm wide awake at around 2.30am and it takes me about 45mins to get back to sleep from then. Then wake up again to Ashlee at 7. It's driving me nuts that I can't get to sleep any earlier than 11 and that wake in the middle of the early morning is SO annoying!

Anyone have any remedies for this problem?! I don't drink coffee at all so it can't be that that's keeping me up.

Do you have a bath in your flat?? Have a bath at about 9pm slightly warm as that makes me go to sleep real quick.

Well Kirsten, I can say I know exactly what you are feeling, I am the worlds worst sleeper and have the big bags under my eyes to proove it!
Last night I went to bed at 9, got to sleep at 10, woke up at 12 which took me 30 minutes to get back to sleep, woke again with a jump at 4.30 and then dozed on and off till 6.20 with the bright morning son and just as I fell into the deepest sleep of the whole night Olivia woke at 6.30am!
I have just been as sick as a dog with the cold and the one thing that made me sleep was phenergan (antihisthamine, gets rid of the runny nose - yuck!). I would strongly recommend that if you worry that it is going to be detrimental to the care of bubbah then get some help from your GP.
As for me I know that every 3rd night I sleep like a log, and if I am that tired I would normally have a kip during the day! Also I cut caffiene out of my diet before 5pm and have a bedtime routine to help out!
Good luck honey!

Lying in bed stressing about being awake only makes it worse, but getting up, having a hot milk drink, and a snack if hunger is keeping you awake (are you breastfeeding?) can help.  I find hopping on the computer keeps me awake rather than settles me, but reading can be calming (if it's not a really exciting page-turner, that is!).

I too found that I had to get into a routine to help get my sleep back, in a nutshell I shower at 9:30, hop out, brush hair, get into PJs, brush teeth, go loo, take medicine, and then get Erin up and changed for handover to Daddy for the last feed of the night. I also use a bit of lavender essential oil on my pillowslip as I find it helps me relax.

studying helps me. i sit in bed with my books and will be asleep in about ten minutes. any reading actually - even during the day.

exercise also helps. Going for a run or something during the afternoon can help relax you more at night.

There is a natural product I use called Avena Comp - you get it at health stores. Tastes foul but does help relax you and get you to sleep. Could be worth a shot.

I was going to recommend a warm drink of milk in the middle of the night when you wake too. Tossing and turning is no fun Maybe you could try that at 10.30pm (then go to bed) as well.

Thanks ladies! Some good suggestions there (although I might have to rethink the sex one lol). Never thought the computer would make me stay awake, might stay off the computer after dinner, and have a warm drink before bed. I often jump in the bath with Ashlee about 6.30ish. I don't much like the smell of lavender but might try it anyway.

I think half my problem is that I have too much time to think during the day and don't get these things out of my head coz I don't get that adult company some days so I may just start having to tell Ashlee all of the ideas/worries/stresses and things that run through my head just to get it out! hehehe

Does anyone know of any herbal teas that are calming/relaxing?

Baalamb I love to write all those kind of things into a journal. Don't often read what I've written, but writing it down helps me process it somehow. If you like writing, just an idea.... sorry I don't know the answer to the herbal teas question, I'm a milo drinker

Yuck I was afraid someone was going to say chamomile hehehe don't like that either. Yeah busymum, I love writing and have a journal that I'm starting to write bits and pieces in but kind of got slack on it a bit. Need to pick it up I think!

Didn't take too long for me to get to sleep last night after my warm milk, but I still woke up at 2.30! I guess I'll just have to live with that for now. I can't go back to sleep until I check on Ashlee and go to the bathroom.

Thanks Baysmum
