Hi guys, My first child was born and raised til 3 years old in Brisbane so this next baby is my first in NZ. Baby is due in early June so it will be quite cold. I'll have baby in a bassinette for the first 6 or so weeks but then Im wondering if I should buy a woollen underlay for the cot? I've found one http://www.babycity.co.nz/wool-cot-underlay.html" rel="nofollow - HERE but had never thought about using one before. My DS has a woollen underlay on his bed. Does anyone else have a woollen underlay on their babies cot in winter? Is this something I should buy? Also what about flanelette cot sheets? Are they generally used in winter in cots? Thanks, Carrie.

Yes, I have one on DD's cot. We sometimes use flannelette sheets (not because it's cold, but because we have them). If you have a warm home (ie, built in the last few years) neither may be necessary. However most NZ homes are pretty cold in winter...
In lue of flannelette sheets you could use a gogo bag or something similar.

I put flannelette sheets in the cot (and on our bed!) in winter, not because it is necessarily warmer but because cotton sheets feel cold and flannelette sheets don't. We also use duvet weight woolbabe sleeping bags. Anything for the kids to be snuggly warm!

DD was a June baby & DS an early Autumn baby for both I used a woollen underlay. I used a cot sized one but double it up and used it on the bassinette. Also used flannelette sheet on both the bassinette (homemade-easy as) and cot.

I popped a woollen underlay on our babies bed (he was born in August). We put flannelette sheets on all of our beds in winter, and we are in Northland lol

My girls were born in June and I used woollen matress protectors on their cots - I think it was Swanndri brand, from Farmers. It wasn't padded so safe for wee ones and good for keeping any leaks off the matress.
I second/third the sleeping bag recommendations. Duvet weight Woolbabes are brilliant. Unfortunately I wasted a bit of money trying different brands before coming across the Woolbabes.
