Hi guys,
Quite new to this General Chat, have been on the Private forums for weeks but I thought this would be the best place to come.
We are expecting our first baby (little girl) in June. I was wondering about sterilizing feeding equipment i.e breast pump and bottles, as I've been told so many different things by different people.
I will be breast feeding but will express when needed and just wondering if buying sterilizing equipment is worth it.
Would scrubbing bottles etc in hot water and putting in the dishwasher be for a newborn??
Hope you can help.
Thanks

Hi
I think it is recommended the you sterilize up to 6months (or longer), we had a steam sterilizer but you can also buy Milton tablets at the supermarket (similar to what they use in hospital). If you were going to buy a 'unit' check out trade me there are a few on there.
The good thing I found with sterilizing is it gave me peace of mind knowing that all the bits were cleaned and cleaned well.
Take care

Hey, I've just been using Milton Sterilizing tablets for everything and they are really good and 1 pack has already lasted me over 2 months. They work in cold water and only take 15 minutes :)

We have been leant an Avent electric sterliser and I have to say it is AMAZING, we still handwash bottles etc and then throw them all in the steriliser (including dummies and nipple shields too) and it is done in about 2mins and lasts up to 6 hours - it has a 24hour setting too I think.
It is way quicker and easier than the traditional boiling water on the stove and even the microwave ones - I would highly recommend esp given you are going to express, which is what I do at least once daily - our wee one is 3weeks old.
Hope that helps.

You could also sterilise the items mentioned by placing in boiling water for 5 minutes.
They keep changing the sterile period AandC's mum, I was told 6 months with DS and 3 months with DD :-S
