oh yay (well, not in that sort of way!!) but finally someone else I can talk to about them! Ella has them, and has had them for about 8 months.. they are usually spread by sharing a bath with someone (although I don't know who she would have caught them from) and so we've had them too.. ours have gone now though. Don't be surprised if Madison gets them too..
They are not very nice to look at and Ella mainly has them on her neck, I've been asked if she's got chicken pox, warts, sores etc.. people look at me strangely when I explain.. but compared to other diseases I'd rather she had these as they are completely harmless and they disappear when their immune systems kick them out. Ella's have bled a bit from being knocked around though, so watch out when they get bigger..
I thought hers were almost gone but now I can see tiny ones coming up around her neck oh well, as I said, there are much worse things out there than these

oh I wonder if they are like what Alan had I thought he had skin tag's they went a little pussy if they got knocked. Doc said they are very common. Took Alan's about 6-9 month's to go away. Not sure if the yare the same, but if they are we just put antibiotic cream on the one's that got a little infected.

What do they look like? Briona has a clear wart-like bump on her wrist which she's had for 8mos, it doesn't seem to be spreading or hurting or going red or anything. Hannah had something similar behind her ear at the same age, was around for ages and finally disappeared probably after 9-12mos. Does this sound like the same thing as you are talking about?

*bump* just wondering if someone can please explain what these are. As I said before, Briona had one on her wrist. In the last couple of weeks she has got a lot of little clear dots on her face, especially top lip, and I don't know what they are. Also we have been to the Doc twice in the last fortnight and I keep forgetting to ask him what they are, should I arrange another appointment? (I feel like I'd be wasting his time going so regular, and they're not causing her any grief, but they are multiplying)

What is molluscum contagiosum?
Molluscum contagiosum is a viral skin infection. It mostly affects infants and young children but it may also affect adults.
It appears as small, firm, flesh-coloured bumps with white waxy centres. These can appear anywhere on the body but are common on the genital area, thighs or lower abdomen, and warm moist places such as the armpit.
What are the symptoms?
Molluscum contagiosum is usually painless but it can sometimes be itchy, especially if the bumps get infected. Without treatment, they can persist for six months to two years. Most clear up within one year.
People with infections that cause immune suppression may have problems with molluscum contagiosum being widespread and less responsive to treatment. Lesions may also last longer in children who also have atopic eczema.
How is molluscum contagiosum transmitted?
Molluscum contagiosum is spread by close skin-to-skin contact. Transmission may be more likely in wet conditions, eg. when children bathe or swim together. It may also be possible for it to be transmitted via clothing or towels, and it can be spread from one part of the body to another by scratching.
How is it treated?
Treatment is for cosmetic reasons. Molluscum can be removed by using a sharp toothpick to remove the centre core or by freezing or burning the lesions.
Let me no if there is anything else you want to no

Saw the Doctor this week and mentioned Briona's "spots" and yep they are the same thing. She has had one on her wrist for months but the ones on her face/neck are pretty recent. Doc says they usually take 9 months to disappear and they can treat the face ones if they seem to be getting in the way or whatever. I have no idea how she's got them, but the fresh outbreak came when she was already sick so I guess the immune system has been trying to beat it all this time.
How are you getting on with them meow?

Poor Briona! I have absolutely no idea how Ella got them either but apparently it's quite common..it builds an immunity to them and other wort-like things too so that is good.
Well I haven't got around to getting the cream but Ella's aren't bothering her all that much.. she does have alot of new ones though and I'm wondering when they are going to disappear for good It has probably been about 9 months or even more since I first noticed Ella had them..

Briona has heaps of these now, how's everyone's else's going? Bria has them all over her face, neck and some on her shoulder. Family members are only just starting to ask about them, they seem to really only be noticed when someone volunteers to wipe her face after eating.
Had one today where the wax part started seeping through the skin surface. I squeezed it ou Not sure if that was the right thing to do?

Ellas have GONE! YAY! has been almost a year now, phew.. I am so happy, I felt so bad for her when they were red and itchy..
I think you should probably leave them, squeezing might leave a scar. I haven't noticed any scars on Ella from them

That's great meow!!
I haven't touched any more of Briona's, I think you might be right on the scarring idea. But they are crusting a bit and one is looking particularly puss-y today, like a pimple. I think a lot of the others by her eye are starting to "leak" crusty stuff but she doesn't stay still for long so I haven't had a good look lol.
Does it all sound normal to you guys?
Maybe we should sticky this thread for my countless questions

Yep, sounds normal. Ella's leaked, bleed etc. I think I just got a cotton bud with warm water and gently wiped when they were like that.
Hey the good thing is that once they get these, they are immune to them. Helps you when you can't imagine that they'll ever go away..

Briona's big one popped today while she was sleeping so I used a cotton bud to put some dettol cream on it this afternoon. (Now that its broken I don't wanna have it infected.) It is on the bottom eyelid if that makes sense, just above the crease - hence the cotton bud. She has most of hers there

We've returned from Kawau and my daughter has got it now too; we think it's from her swimming lessons. She was in alot of pain over the weekend and quite feverish, apparently it can incubate for long periods of time. She's got Batroban and Pamol as the fever hasn't settled yet...and to top it all off she's got a snotty nose and she looks like abosolute cr*p So it's obviously more common than I thought.

I'm not sure if a fever is related??
-------------
|

she had a fever which was related to her snot nose that is really badly infected now... it just get's worse the spots have spread onto her ears and arms (no it's not chickenpox) and she's been put onto antibiotics as the ones on her face have become infected...
Preschool called me today and asked me to pick her up as a couple of parents complained they got it into their thick heads that she had school sores. Husband went and picked her up and had a go at them for not sticking up for her, as he'd given them an info sheet and they didn't bother to show those particular parents...

They keep on coming!! They almost line the bottoms of her eyes and I just noticed two more coming up on her lips!! She has a couple coming from the chest/shoulders to her upper arm and under her chin is covered.... her tummy is particularly dry at the moment (excema early stage), I wonder if that is related to the current outbreak?
The ones under one eye keep pussing up and popping (like pimples) and Doc said there's nothing we can do except Dettol cream (which I've ben doing when they pop, after all you guys have talked about infected ones) or - get this - liquid nitrogen
<Sigh> feels like I'll be explaining these things away forever

Well I'd take her to the Doc for a cream/treatment recommendation for the itchiness. Have you tried a dettol/savlon cream for starters, to see if that helps soothe them?
And as for school, I bet they are a huge embarrassment but perhaps if you could equip her with some information on them to help answer the questions and comments she gets. They aren't easily spread, for example. I used to be quite embarrassed about Briona's before I knew what they were, because I thought it was a lack of washing or something I was responsible for.

I got them myself a couple of years ago. Got quite a fright as they were along my bikini line. i thought it was ingrown hairs. I was so embarrassed as i read in adults the can be sexually transmitted and I had been away from DF for a few months.....but TOTALLY faithful. Then the doc mentioned you can get them from swimming pools and towels etc and Ihad been backpacking through dodgy youth hostels in Europe. Oh yay!!!! anyway mine went away after a few months...but DF still has the odd one. I think I picked at mine and that may have helped.
Apparently most people get some kind of infection of them as kids and I mustn't have so had no immunity.

I think Miss 9 might have these. I thought they were related to her ezcema but perhaps not. I have to take Master 13 to get his ear sorted out - before we fly- so was going to ask about her spots at the same time. Would really like to get rid of them fast for her since she already has ezcema to deal with. Not bothering her. they are on her upper arm, armpit and around her nipple on the same side (only the left side) It been a couple of months since she has had them and at first they did go really red - thought it was her ezcema in a different not been seen before form.
Will keep you posted if the Dr has any other advise for it.

Hi Ann I think they go red when they are knocked or otherwise irritated. They say the kids who get excema are most likely to get these 'scum as well. Briona has the excema thing going on, Doc saw how many she has and said she definitely has the excema gene. So they are kinda related, but different things.
I heard the easiest way to transmit them is via bathing together. Hannah and Briona have been bathing together almost since Bria was born, and Hannah hasn't got them so obviously is ok (but I think she had one when she was really little). But I'm going to be watching that Kryssi and Briona don't bath-share for a long, long time.

I didn't think they could spread so thats good advise. I am going to drs this week so am going to ask about them. I don't know whether Rhyley is going to have ezcema as hes got tell tale dry skin on his belly and now that hes teething his cheeks are spotty and dribble rash pretty bad (spoil my lil man good looks) doesn't seem to bother him though.
oh if any of you have ezcema kids, do you claim the child disability allowance? I read on another forum that they were claiming for ezcema?? just wondering.

Right took Brooke to dr and its what you say they are... cost me 17.50 to be told. He said its a virus and will go away with in the year (you guys all know this) no mircle cure unfortunatly. At least they are only on her upper arm, armpit and side of upper chest on left side. Doesn't bother her too much. they actually look like they maybe going but probably not.

Well if you explain them to her (or she probably heard the doc lol) she should feel a lot better about them. Unfortunately other kids/people will presume they are contagious or chicken pox, etc, etc. Watch her over the winter as whenever Briona gets a cold, she gets more of the spots as well (immune system down).

Deb it's mostly an excema thing although your boys may have managed to catch it from each other. I'm not certain whether Hannah had one or not but if so, it was only one. Briona had tonnes. Far too many to count, even our doc was surprised at how many. Kryssi has had none and she is past the age the other(s) got theirs.
They all get that infected look at the end whether you squeeze them or not. It's what they look like when the immune system fights them.

I know this is an old post however; antibiotics only work on bacteria, Molluscum is a Virus - therefore antibiotics will NOT kill molluscum. All over the www you will see home help remedies for Molluscum which people claim will work - including antibiotics - the truth is the virus was going to disappear without treatment anyway. There is nothing scientifically proven to kill molluscum - please don’t add to the problem of antibiotic resistance by using them for a virus which they won’t have any affect on.
