I have had enough, Trish! Nope, no signs of Xavier arriving soon... and one of my midwives thinks I'll go at least a couple of days over.
I'm still having lots of useless contractions, just like I did with Josiah... except I only had 3 weeks of them with him and this time they started at 30 weeks.
Just as long as our baby boy doesn't decide to arrive next weekend, everything will be fine! Today looks like a good day to me (mind you, so did every day last week! )

I'm not going anywhere next weekend... being due the following Wednesday made it seem not such a good idea... but Nathaniel has a job interview in Whangarei on Saturday, so he'll be gone Friday lunchtime until Sunday sometime! I really would rather he was there when our son is born! My family is coming down to visit, so there will be someone here with me... and Mum delivered Kiya (at the hospital) so I'm sure she'd jump at the chance to support me again.
Nat is catching the train up to Auckland on Friday and staying the night with his best friend Henoch, who is going to drive the pair of them up to Whangarei on Saturday. Nat will stay Saturday night with Henoch again, then catch the train back on Sunday.

Looks like it worked, Trish!
Strong contractions started 12noon yesterday... they got painful at 11pm and kept waking me up through the night... painful contractions 40 minutes apart from 5:15am until 8:30am when they became 30 minutes apart - and have been since! They are lasting about 30 seconds.
I saw my midwife today, and she said he'll be born probably tonight or tomorrow. Bags are packed, carseat is ready, childcare is organised (just need to call the people and put it in place)... bring it on!
When the contractions are lasting for 45 seconds then it'll be time to call the midwife who will decide if Nat and I should jump in the car and drive ourselves or if we need to call the ambulance.

Thanks ladies!
Contractions are now 20 minutes apart, and lasting 30 seconds. A friend of ours is on his way here now from Wanganui to look after the kids. Nat and I decided it was easier to just ask Chris to come today rather than keep our 3-phase plan in place (someone during the night, someone else in the morning, Chris the rest of the time).
Nat and I can't decide if we should wait as long as we were told, or if we should head to Wanganui ourselves once its after 5pm (and my midwife goes off duty). Chris should be here by then.

Still around... we're going to have some dinner (not that I'm very hungry today) then head down to Wanganui... Chris is here to look after the kids, and if things don't progress overnight then we'll either get a motel or stay with Chris's wife Lisa.
20 minutes apart, lasting 30 seconds... but I think they might speed up soon 'cause the last couple were closer to 18 minutes apart...
We'll text Jax with an update when Xavier is born, so you'll all know, okay?

Well, I'm home from Wanganui... and still in one piece! Thank you all for your kind words. Here's the short version (I'll post the longer one later, when I get a chance):
Not a false alarm, but not established labour. We went to Wanganui knowing we were going a little early, but thinking it was maybe a day early at the most. Turns out, the contractions are doing something (which is an improvement on the last 9 weeks) but not very fast. However, as this is #3 things could change quickly.
So, now its a waiting game. I'm still having contractions, at the moment they are about 10-15 minutes apart, and have been since yesterday morning. The midwives at the hospital said that we did the right thing in going down given how far away we live and what information we had.

Okay... here's what happened last week
Strong contractions started Monday lunchtime, and continued through the afternoon. At 11pm, they started getting painful, and were becoming regular through the night. I went to my regular midwife appointment at 11am on Tuesday... the painful contractions were about 40 minutes apart and had been since 8:30, with a couple of painless contractions inbetween each one.
Susana did a normal antenatal check, and as I had a couple of contractions while I was with her (one painful, one painless) she did an external check of what was going on. She said that the baby would probably be born that evening or the next day, and to ring her (before 5pm) or the midwives at Wanganui Hospital (afterhours) when the contractions were lasting 45 seconds or longer, and whoever I talked to would tell us whether to jump in the car and drive down, or whether they were calling us an ambulance.
From 1pm, the painful contractions started being 30 minutes apart, and lasting closer to 30 seconds. Nat and I talked about it, and decided to call Chris to come up from Wanganui to look after the kids, and then to head down to the hospital ourselves. We knew we would be going there early, but thought it would probably be a day early at the most.
Just before 5pm, I tried ringing Susana to find that the Health Centre had closed at 4:30! Chris got here just after that, so we had some dinner then I rung Wanganui Hospital and left a message for the midwives. We swapped cars with Chris (so he had Josiah's carseat) and drove down. We got to Wanganui just before 8, and first went round to the place we would stay the night if nothing happened. Chris and his wife Lisa (who is one of my best friends) are living with Lisa's Granny, and it was arranged that we/Nat could stay there if necessary. Once we'd called in, we then went to the hospital.
At the hospital, they hooked me up to the monitoring machine and took a trace of the contrations (which were just under 10 minutes apart by then) and Xavier's heartbeat. It was a good-looking chart, but an internal examination showed that not much was happening. The midwife advised us to stay in Wanganui overnight as it was quite likely that once things did start happening properly, they would do so very quickly.

Wednesday morning, we did a couple of errands in Wanganui before heading back up to the hospital. They had kept a room for me overnight incase I came in at 2am! I got monitored again, and then the midwife did an internal... no change from the night before (which was what we'd pretty much expected). As the contractions were still almost regular and quite strong (the midwife was most impressed with the results of the trace), and given the distance we live from the hospital, we were advised to stay around Wanganui for one more night, and to go back to the hospital in the morning for one final check before heading home.
Thursday morning, we went up to the hospital first thing. Xavier was asleep for the first part of the monitoring, so I was hooked up to the machine for longer while we waited for all the ice water I was drinking to kick in and wake him! Once they'd got a long enough trace, and done an internal, the midwife said we could go. She said we'd done the right thing by coming down when we did, considering how far away we live and what information we had. She also gave us better advice on when to come back: when the contractions are 10 minutes apart (and coming regularly) and lasting 60 seconds or more, or if my waters break, or if I start bleeding. If its during her hours, then I ring Susana to assess me, otherwise I call Wanganui Hospital and talk to the midwife on duty... and someone will call an ambulance.

We got home after lunch on Thursday... Kiya was quite dissappointed when she got home from school and we were there but Xavier hadn't been born. My Mum and Dad were going to come down on the weekend for a visit, so Mum came down earlier to look after me. She brought my brother and sister with her and they all got here mid afternoon on Thursday, with Dad following on Saturday.
Nat didn't go away for his interview, instead he arranged to have it over the phone instead. They were going to call him at 1pm Saturday, so we all went for a bush walk for an hour or so to give him a quiet house. The interviewers were running a little late, so they asked if he minded doing the interview either later Saturday or on Sunday... it ended up happening Sunday.
I'm still having contractions... they get stronger and more painful in the evening, and a few will wake me up at night, then they are back to strong and painless by breakfast time. We're now just waiting... Xavier will come when he's ready, I just hope its by the end of the day shift tomorrow because we both really liked the midwife we saw Thursday morning and she told us that she's on duty until Tuesday.

Nat said his interview went well. He thinks they will probably offer him the position. We've decided that if they do, we'll come up to Whangarei after Xavier is born to have a look around the school and stuff, and make a decision as to whether or not he'll take the job after that. If they don't offer him the job, well, then we're staying put!

Yeah, Roksana, still here... Had more bits of my show last night, but as that's been happening on and off all week I'm not holding my breath that it will turn into any more than the continuing contractions.
The principal of Kamo rung last night... he'd like Nat to come up this weekend if possible. He understands that if Xavier hasn't appeared by then that Nat won't leave me alone. Still, it would be nice for him to arrive by tomorrow... and on the lighter side, both Kiya and Josiah were born on a Wednesday!

I have a midwife appointment today at 11, so I'm going to push for Susana to do an internal to see if anything has changed in the last few days. I'm still getting little bits of show, but I'm more concerned I might be losing little bits of my waters.
Sorry if TMI! but its only when I'm already going to the toilet... I'm sure I'm finished, and then there's a bit more - and my bladder feels empty, yet sometimes there's a gush of fluid. If this is the case, then my guess is his head is dropping back down and sealing it off the rest of the time - which is why its only happening on the toilet.
This has been happening on and off all week, so the risk of infection is there... if I'm right about what it is, I'll be off to Wanganui today to be properly checked out at the hospital.

So I went and saw my midwife... I talked to her about the possibility I was losing some of my waters, and she was going to give me a test to do the next time I felt something happen. I asked her to do an internal examination, and she told me I'm now 4cm dilated (probably started at 1-2cm, since this is #3) and the cervix is halfway forward, and starting to thin. Susana said she could feel the fontenelle, and that there was a bulging membrane right alongside the baby's well-applied head. With my permission she did a stretch and sweep, and said that hopefully something should now start happening in the next 2-4 hours.
I've talked to Nat, and we're not going to head to Wanganui until contractions start... if my waters break, or I start bleeding (more than the little bit a sweep can cause), or if contractions are no more than 10 minutes apart on the dot and lasting at least 60 seconds then we'll be calling an ambulance.
If its not too late when we go, my Mum will come down tonight (Katikati is 4 hours drive away), otherwise she'll come down tomorrow to look after the other two.

oooo with a sweep, you probably will go into labour. I bet that'll be a huge relief for you in some ways! 2-4 hours though? I was told 24-48 when I had sweeps. Sounds pretty promising for you! All the best!!

Fingers crossed. My friend had her baby on the weekend, contractions were 20 minutes apart and only mild, she had a shower, got out and needed to push, baby born 20 minutes later by her mum and aunty! Goes to show how fast things can happen. Will have to keep jumping on here now to see how you are

Contractions have started... they were a bit irregular to begin with, but are currently 12 minutes apart and lasting 45 seconds, and have been for just over 45 minutes... we're probably going to go soon.
