Ashlee's got a bit of a runny nose and is sounding 'stuffy'. Is it necessary to take an infant to the doctors every time they have cold/flu symptoms? If it is a must then that's fine, but I just don't want look like an over-protective-paranoid-can-you-tell-I'm-a-first-time-mother mother hehe

I used to take Ella for every little thing just for my own piece of mind! It was cheap enough and at least once I knew it was just a cold I could stop worrying so much .
To answer your question, no its probably not neccessary unless she has symptoms you're not sure about but don't worry about what they might think of you, better to be paranoid than careless! ------------- Mel, Mummy to E: 6, B: 4 and:

I got told if its green snot the take them as its from infection, otherwise they are usally fine.
But insaying that if at anytime you are worried then take her.. doesnt hurt to have her checked out and it will put your mind at ease aswell

One time I left Han so long (for the reason of not wanting to seem paranoid) that she threw up from coughing so much. Turned out she had a chest infection. I felt so terrible that now I take her whenever she is even remotely sick!
(Well kinda... but anyway... super paranoid )

I have been told as well that if the snot is a different colour other than clear to get it checked out. Andrew at the moment has all the classic signs of being sick but just has a viral infection. He has a runny clear nose, coughing, high temp and sneezing. If the snot changes colour i'll be taking him to the dr. For your own peace of mind I would take her to the dr in the morning - I think drs are so used to first time mums that they know you only want to do whats best for your baby. ------------- I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived! |

With colds I just go if there's something extra that I'm a bit concerned about, like a rash or temperature or earache. The other reason would be if you feel that you need something prescribed for her. Is she sleeping okay at night? Does she need nose drops so she can feed ok? Is she miserable? If you answer yes-no-no then I wouldn't bother.
Sometimes if it's a Thursday afternoon/Friday I will go just for peace of mind because if things go downhill on Friday afternoon then of course the Doc's office is shut until Monday. -------------  |

She's still sleeping absolutely fine, just this morning and this arvo she seemed 'stuffed up' and possibly a bit chesty and she was extra grizzly. She does have a slight rash on her chest, but I'm not too worried about that as it's going now and I'm sure it was down to the fact that we changed our washing powder and she's reacting to the new stuff. Have just changed back to the one we know she doesn't react to (Murphys Law - it's more expensive!!!)
She's been more grumpy than usual today and I thought that might be to do with her teeth moving around a bit that's all. I did read on a site that teething comes with cold symptoms as well so I think at the moment I'll just keep an eye on her. If by Tuesday I think she's getting worse (or not any better), then I'll take her to the dr then. She's coughing more than usual too but again, I read that may be to do with teething too. |

| On this topic then as well, at Ashlee's 6 week jabs, we got prescribed Paracetamol from the docs with instructions to give 2.5ml every 6 hours. Does or can that increase as they get older or is 2.5ml still enough at 4 months old?? (might ring Plunketline on that one) |

I was ultra paranoid last night so slept in Ashlee's room. Just as well I think coz DH's got a cold, and was absolutely snoring his head off. I could still hear him after closing his door AND Ashlee's door! Had a shocking sleep anyway because any time I couldn't hear her breathing (quite often due to DH's snoring!!!!!), I'd get up to check her. She didn't wake up fully, but there were a few times she woke and gave the 'man, I'm sick of this sh*t' grizzle and went back to sleep hehehe.
She's full blown snotty nosed today. We put a drop up each nostril of cooled boiled water (so she could still drink her bottle!) and that seemed to help but she's coughing and spluttering a little bit. We also raised the head end of her cot a weeny bit and that seemed to help straight away. I'm getting DH to pick up some Karvol on the way home from work and hopefully, we'll be able to kick this without having to go to the docs but in saying that, if we have to, we have to! |

It done on weight panadol, and if it is the orange or pink stuff. Ring the chemist and ask them how much she can have they should do it for you. ------------- I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived! |

Pamol dosage is based on weight, you can ring a billion people to tell you what the dosage is, health line, plunket line, nurse at dr's or the pharmacist. It is important that you know what pamol strength you have and what dosage to give so that you can effectively make bubbah feel more comfortable. (I sound so business like when I say it like that) I made mistakes with my pamol and was a mess for it!
I'm a bit too much of a paranoid freak and take Olivia to the Dr for everything Kirsten, I never want to be up at emergency for an infection that I didn't see coming! But in the same respect, I think it is awesome that you are confident enough to be nursie to Ashlee (through hubby's snoring and all tee hee!) when she is sick. | I rang healthline to ask about pamol and i got a ten minute lecture on what a feer is...and they forgot to tell me about the pamol. ring a pharmacy - no waiting on the line and they are usually pretty good. |
