| Watching tv this morning and Jake starts singing the Harvey Norman song, i suddenly started thinking, hmm i wonder if they are watching too much tv? Usually they are playing at the same time and I can honestly say the only programme he will sit and watch for a long length of time is "the Zoo", the rest including Blue's Clues, he wil run around and come back to. So how much TV do your kids watch? Do you think it's too much? |

my son knows nearly the whole story line of shrek... yeah i sometimes think he watches too much tv and like jake they run areound and play while it is on and i do wonder if they are picking up more than they should. i try and have it off during the day... so will turn on in the morning (depending on what time we get up) and turn off when the kids programs finish or flick to either the maori channel for their kids show or good morning. then i try not to let them watch anything till 3 when the go show is on - unless they are too busy having fun and playing then i wont tell them. gabriel goes DOH! when the simpsons comes on which surprises me cause we dont watch that as a rule. ------------- http://www.myfitnesspal.com/weight-loss-ticker">

I'm glad you made this post! I've been thinking the same thing.. there are a whole line-up of kiddies programmes on in the mornings now so Ella watches about an hour sometimes.. that is all though unless she's sick or really grizzly during the day (which is happening quite alot lately) 
I can get things done while she's watching and I find she's happier once she's had her fix then I'm ready to play with her for the rest of the morning.. most of the shows (like blues clues and dora) are educational too so I guess it's not that bad! ------------- http://lilypie.com">

I haven't got Hannah onto tv, just to movies. Then I can pre-watch them (usually I'll just watch it with her the first time - especially looking out for "scary" bits), and there are no ads. Although the rule is "one movie per day" we have just introduced her to an educational game on the computer and that gets a lot of time and attention. I was thinking of limiting her time based on her age, just not sure yet whether it will be 1/2 hour per year of age or 1 hour. And that's split up over morning/afternoon. Tempting as it is, I don't like to use the computer as a babysitter. -------------  |

i have been tossing up on that vtech / leapfrog thingey that goes on the tv - educational, teaches coordination skills etc but isnt it training them to watch tv and play computer games...Im torn on that one...
and now i am frantically watching tv for a harvey norman ad - is the music that catchy - i cant recall...!! |

Andrew loves the ads, if he is doing something and the ads come on he will always stop what he is doing for certain ads. The xtra one is one he stops for at the moment - for him it has a lot to do with the music on the ads. He would rather watch his Thomas dvd over normal tv any day. ------------- I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived! |

Charlotte still runs around in her undies going "undies undies... togs!". Hehe :o)
We let her watch one Hi-5 or little einstein DVD each morning, they are about 40 minutes. I think they say anything over an hour and it can start to have negative effects eg- increased risk for ADD/ADHD, obesity etc. ------------- Jen, Charlotte 7 & Kate 3
