First timer here… We Have been actively TTC for 3 months, no previous BC just withdrawal. On Saturday, (5 days ago) I had a pinching burning feeling LOW in my abdomen below my hip joint on the left side that lasted a day or so on and off. The next day one or two wipes of blood/spotting, thinking it was my AF but it came to nothing, decided to take a HPT on the Monday - mid morning, and after a few mins got a very faint line! EXCITED! so booked an appt with doctor to do what you do, vitamins bloods etc… The doc appointment was this morning.
I am frustrated. The test in the doc office came up but very faint again. I advised the last few days happenings. She immediately goes on to say that as my dates put me at 5 weeks, the line should be darker and that its likely chemical, or ectopic due to the pains I described.
She has taken bloods this morning and will repeat late tomorrow (not after 3 days due to easter) to see what the HCG is doing. I am so angry because she told me outright that it is not a viable pregnancy it IS either one or the other, chemical or ectopic. I am dying to hear reassurance that my thoughts are not crazy!!!
I won't be satisfied till i get the bloods back but then it won't be till have an US that it will be confirmed viable or healthy…
can anyone else comment on this situation? I'm angry and upset, as she can't know ONLY from a faint line. SURELY????
Thanks in Advance x

No, she can't know from a simple test. Especially as it's in the early days. She may just have wanted to stop you getting your hopes up when things looked questionable... or she may just be a less than exceptional Dr!
Hang in there. The blood results will let you know one way or the other.

Do you have regular 28 day cycles? Because it sounds like the doctor is basing her statement on this. And even if you do have regular cycles, it's not unheard of to ovulate late one month for a random reason. So saying you are at 5 weeks is not necessarily correct! You might actually only be 4 weeks (2 weeks after ovulation).
Really, as others have said, the only way to know is to see what your hormones to over the next week. Unfortunately, waiting is hard, but pretty much a constant with TTC.
