As a teacher who has taught so many kids now (married to a teacher - who has also taught many kids), we struggled to come up with names that weren't emotionally loaded because of toads we have both taught.

We also both know how bad too unique names are for kids - especially those that are spelt *differently* (I mean phonically incorrectly, not just the normal different versions like Jacob and Jakob.

Luckily we both like fairly classic names, and we also know having a couple of kids with the same name in class with them won't scar them for life!

Busymum, try a different spelling like Janelle http://www.babynamesworld.com/meaning_of_Janelle.html

I love lots of interesting types of names like Kadence, Blaire, Ruby, Penny, Samuel, Alexander.
Nothing too fancy but nothing extremely popular.
If only hubby had agreed with me Olivia would be called Kadence!

Thanks Peace, I hadn't thought of that spelling! Turns out Jinell is another spelling for Janelle which is derived from Jane.... now that is a mission. But my new favourite baby names site (for anyone who is interested) is http://123-baby-names.com/ - http://123-baby-names.com/

If that was us, you'd definitely be having a girl then LOL Especially if you now can't get even close to agreeing on a boy's name

hehe busymum - its seems to be the opposite with us! lol, wev had a boys name since before we even got pregnant! but could never make our mind up about a girls name and when we were pregnant with my son we had found the girls name straight away and couldnt agree on a boys name then when we found out he was a boy it was a bit of a shock and a rush to try and agree on a boys name!!lol so yeah maybe this means we are having a girl because it was the last pick of name! lol

I'm the opposite I have a few unusual surname (a few on here know what it is) so we have to have plain names. Our first is Andrew John and the second (if I get MY way) will be Joshua Alex. I really like Alex James but a friend of mine in England called her little boy that and I don't want to "steal" her name.

And have to agree when I was doing one of my teaching practises there was a boy called Conner and I would always spell it Connor (the "normal" way) he always had to correct me and I felt bad for spelling it wrong. I wasn't the only one that spelt it wrong even the teacher did.

Well my first name is Teresa and that *always* gets spelled wrong, I guess I just finally got used to it at some point. And we always have to spell our last name too because its not all that common either. Lucky for Briona and Krystiana I guess!

HA!! You want to hear an unusual name?? A friend of mine is a doctor here in NZ and works in the hospitals. She has told me so many names that would horrify you, but the one I could *not* believe no matter how hard I tried ...??

Mt Roskill Bus Stop.

I kid you not.

Very, *very* unfortunate little boy!!!

Old Brooklyn Beckham didn't get off too badly did he when you think about kids being named after where they were conceived!

what the??? That is soooo cruel, omg.. thank goodness for having the right to change your name, that boy will be heading there sooner than later.

My mum worked in a school with a little girl called New Year. Enough said lol

My name is spelled Kathryn, which when I was named wasn't as popular as it is now. I'm forever correcting people so I decided I'd shorten it to "Kat". People also decide to add an "e" to my last night despite me spelling it out to them.

Lyla that is funny good thing she is called Xanthe instead of "empty section".

So understand your Kathryn thing. I have a friend who has it spelt the same way and it drives her nuts when people spell it the other ways. Or when people spell it with a "C".

I'm a Rebecca and that is the "normal" spelling and because it is shortened to "Becks" people thing its spelt "Rebeka" nope they are wrong. I won't even get started on my surname. Its bad enough it starts with a "Z".

whats it with dh and not liking Ruby I love it

yeah I guess it goes both ways about the Ann/Anne name, I don't like Annie (no offence) cause when I was young the movie Annie was out and I got called it and so now I don't like it - makes me feel like a kid (although that might not be a bad thing )

If you like Mt Roskill... You will love these
(I was in love with Bowie, who changed his name from Jones, so read all the articles on names growing up)

In NZ there has been:

A Ponsonby Bus Station
Twins: Benson and Hedges
Twins: Fish and Chips.

I personally know of children called:
Kurupt (a girl)
Twins: Acid and Hash
Skypro
Sher Khan

I think all of these are why I like the classic names...
