My husband and I are mid-late 30's and have been TTC for over a year now. Tests show that he has very low sperm count and our Dr has referred us to the fertility clinic at Hutt Hospital (Wellington). The wait time for an appointment was three months and we've just been pushed back another month. We're now considering contacting Fertility Associates to see if we can speed up the process.

We'd be keen to hear from anyone who has gone down either path - your thoughts, experiences, etc.

Hi, sorry you're having problems :(

With low sperm count, if it's below 10 million/ml then generally IVF if the offered 'solution', where they use ICSI. My husband has low count (<5 mil), low morphology, and low motility last test. We paid for private treatment through fertility associates (FA), who put you on the public wait list if you get enough points to qualify. We've just done our first public treatment - a long waiting game, but for us saved a lot of money. I think paying for initial consult etc is worth it to save those extra months, as the IVF wait list is very long.... 12 - 24 mths.

Yes what Mushroom said. If you can afford pay for the initial consult, you can switch over to public funding later. It is aLOT quicker. We got referred in the June via the public way and got our appt in Nov. However in the mean time went private and by Nov were already 2mths through our wait for treatment.

My partner has zero sperm so we are using a donor. Any questions just give a shout.

Thanks Mushroom and babycrazy. You've both confirmed what I thought. I'll make the call to FA.
