A while ago we were talking about who leaves their kids in the cars, why/why not etc.

Anyway, went to town today - parked the car and walked across the road. there was a big flash car with three parking wardens around it. Inside the car were two SCREAMING babies - and no parent in sight. "terrible" i thought. Went to T&T, famers, back to T&T *buying summer pjhs for Jake) and went back to the car after about half an hour. car was STILL there with about two police officers there too, about to break the window.

We had 27 degrees today.

Poor little babies! Half an hour or more of crying They should have jacked the lock before then!!

That is different to leaving your baby at the petrol station or atm for 2 mins though

I am pretty sure the police will charge the parents with neglect or something like that. must keep an eye out in the paper and see if there is anything in it.

That is shocking, I so hope they get charged with something for that. Kinda off the topic a bit. I saw a dog in a car yesterday that was in a special cage in the boot and the owners had left the boot open and the dog in the car while they did they groceries. Pretty brave leaving the car open, but the dog did look nasty and was barking the whole time.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

when the police are involved like that not only do they look at charges but it is an instant referral to cyfs...then they got some 'splaining to do!!!

I felt guilty leaving my dogs in back of truck the other day - hot but put all back windows down and was only gone five mins if that...in that heat if there is noone there to stay with the kids then take them with I say...at least u can take kids in (unlike dogs!)

thats shocking - and even more so that after half an hour nobody had broken the window...those poor kids.

and what exactly is a "flash" car? its funny how some people seem to compare their kids to dogs - bombshell is right you cant take dogs into lots of places so why would it be ok to leave a kid in a car with the window cracked? i wonder if they were in the pub or something?

at least they were crying, indicating they were alive, on a day like that it would be too easy for them to overheat and get into a dangerouse situation.

Back in the day when I was a checkout girl it happened a few times as well, dogs and children. We were nasty and would call over the speaker that owner of xyz car registration abc had locked their kids/dog in the car and they needed to attend to them.

Lol Sarah that what we did too I remember we called once and the guy came runing and asked if we called casue he had left his light's on. Another time we called the police who broke into the car and watched as the parent's got into the car before they even noticed their kids were gone.

when i worked in papakura we saw a lot of kids left alone in cars - and when i used to talk to the warden (one who walks around etc) he said one car i had seen him reporting he found them in a pokies bar, they came out and ten minutes later found the car around a back street kids stil alone in it - so he rang the cops. I think the police are the best to break in and know they will respond instantly to kids locked in cars - even if accidental.
I found one in a car in our work carpark then too - took kid out as she had been in the car for ten mins plus and no adult around anywhere (we had watched) mum nowhere in sight...so we rang police and i wished i had walked her up road to cyfs instantly - she was four! We made mum come inside the office on her return = she was actually panicked to find no kid in car...and we went her (a law office!!!) - and the way she reacted (about to punish the kid) I took her aside and told her cyfs would be visiting her home for sure and if she told the kid off (or worse - my fear for this kid) then she would really feel the wrath of cyfs and my office on her! Think she got the message...damn police arrived as she left...but gave them plate and kids name etc...

Omigosh!!! that just makes me want to cry!!!! why do these useless people even have kids!!!!
I leave my son in the car while i go to pay for petrol or run into a dairy but il only leave him if i can keep him in my veiw at all times!!!!(through the shop windows etc) oh and i leave him to sleep in the car if iv just gotten home in which i leave all the windows right down and get up every 5 minutes to check on him!!
Iv only started doing this now that he is older, not sure why i just didnt feel comfortable doing it when he was young because now if he is awake then i can explain where im going and he fully understands or if hes asleep and he wakes up before we check him then he just calls out for us to come and get him.

I hope all the hopeless parents have had those poor wee kiddies taken away from them!!!
