Hi Baysmum,
I used to take Mylanta when I had heartburn during pregnancy and that helped.

Oh yes, Gaviscon has been my new best friend for the last 7 months!!! I prefer the aniseed flavour. The tablets are OK for when youa re out and about, I find they don't work straight away like the liquid does. I heard other people swear by Mylanta in the same way, but Gaviscon works for me so I dare not change

Quickeze tablets are handy for heartburn, I personally wasn't a fan of any of the liquid stuff. You can also get these tablets from the chemist that taste a bit like peppermint... but the heat has melted my brain and I can't remember what they are called !

With the night time heart burn, try taking Gaviscon at least half ah hour before you lie down and it is supposed to form a raft over the stomach acid and prevents it floating up you gullet when you lie down, that's the theory anyway. May work with Mylanta as well but as i say i have never taken it. Works with all flavours too!!!
My midwife suggested a herb tea called Slippery elm, which is disgusting but did the trick too
Also try not drinking with food as this helps everything float up and gives you that refluxy/heart burn feeling

When did everyone elses heartburn/indigestion/reflux start???
Im only 6 weeks pregnant and iv had it for a few weeks now!!! it was one of the giveaway symptoms because iv never!! had it before not even when i was pregnant with my son...oh i had it with my last pregnancy which was a MC but that was it so really did kinda put it down to pregnancy!!
Its a bit of a pain because i usually get the heartburn on and off during the day then real bad starting about 7ish then about 8-9pmish! the MS starts to join in and i dont know whats worse!! in saying that - i am really enjoying it though because im finally pregnant!!!!

I got the gaviscon from a local pharmacy in a nice pregnancy friendly 500ml bottle for about $13, best investmnet so far. I have had heartburn and reflux since before I even thought I was pregnant. So pretty much the last 7 months, but I have a week or so every now and then when I don't get it, not sure why, obvious foods trigger it, so good old fish and chips are out and a nice hot curry, but otherwise there seems to be no pattern.
BTW I thought they only made aniseed Gaviscon!!!! It's pretty much all I ever saw bafore in the UK

Hope you feel better soon

Claiire

My acid reflux / heartburn didn't start until the mid-second trimester, but didn't go away until Erin was born !

Grrrr! I'm suffering from it too - have managed not to take anything yet as I forgot to mention it to my m/w but don't think I'll last much longer Isn't it funny - mine too is worst in the evening/at night?? And drinking milk is totally out too.

oh yuck, heartburn is the absolute pits. when i was pregnant i got it so bad that sometimes i had to sleep sitting up. i went through so many bottles of gaviscon, it was a lifesaver! i must say i wish i'd known there was an aniseed flavour, i love liquorice! i just used the mint stuff. i worked really well for me, better than the tablets coz it had a soothing effect on the way down. good luck with that heartburn, hope it goes away soon.

I wonder why it plays up more at night time???? does anyone know???

I was told that if you get it really early on in pregnancy then it means that your having a girl!!...well i think im having a boy! so wel just have to see

I took a gaviscon tablet last night when my heartburn started haunting me and it took the edge off but didnt take it away completely although it was so bearable that i was happy with the results!!

This morning i woke up and to add to the heartburn my MS has kicked in right bang smack on 6 weeks!!! i was only getting it at night but yip started up this morning!! its bearable though - just a yucky nausious (sp???) feeling! and not wanting to eat anything other than oranges!!?? (iv gone through a whole bag in 2 days!) which its still here!! it seems to be getting progressively worse as the days go by so i hope i dont have all day MS!!

Whoops! sorry that was a bit off the subject of heartburn! its just one of things that seems to be going hand in hand with the heartburn!

Im going to go to the chemist tomorrow and hunt me down some aniseed gaviscon!

There is an old wives tale that if you have lots of indigestion etc, that means your baby has lots of hair and it is stimulating the diaphragm. So i am expecting a hairy ape like baby elephant at the moment
It's worse at night as the sphincter at the top of your stomach which is normally held closed tight is relaxed by all those lovely pregnancy hormones, so when you lie down, it's open a bit and all that lovely stuff floats up and gives you all these pleasant symptons.
The more this pregnancy goes on the more I know Bingo will be an only child (not just cos of indigestion)
