Trust me to get a cold now its nearly summer. Its a doozy, been in bed for 3 days. I have asthma as well. Does anyone have any advice?? All my usual remedies arent safe for baby even my eucylptus oil in a burner which helps with my breathing isn't recommended. So Ive got Panadol and Ventolin.
I already had to take Friday off work and rang today for another 2 days off so I need to get better quick!!
Help!!

You can use saline drops in your nose. Will help clear the passages. Also dose up on pregnacare tablets, They have lots of vitamins etc in, if your not already taking them that is. Also tea tree oil is safe to use during pregnancy.

I forgot to add lavender is also safe to use during pregnancy. Also i have used a fantastic cough medicine that is safe during pregnancy called comvita, fortacold, cough elixer. Available at pharmacy and some supermarkets. They have a 0800 you can phone if you are at all worried about using it. I asked the pharmacy myself and my doctor (im a worry wort) and they assured me it was okay to use.

Neeno, Panadol is safe to use during pregnancy! As long as you don't OD on it.

try a lemon drink.. i use about 20 mls of fresh squeezed lemon juice. 3 teaspoons of sugar, then half fill the cup with cold pure orange juice, and the other half with bioling water.. its a bit sweeter than the usual yucky sour lemon drinks, and it gives you a huge kick of vitamin c.. may not get rid of the cold but makes you feel nice.

hey this lemon drink sounds so nice i think i might make some even though im not sick... another good idea is u could try replacing the sugar with honey it gives it a different tast. im such a honey freak i love the stuff and really good for u too

I've just finished getting over a cold so I know exactly what you mean!
You can take panadol safely and the only thing the chemist I talked to could reccomend was strepsil (but not the cough type) and lemon honey drinks.
I did find the lemon honey drinks helped stangely enough, and my midwife suggested vicks vapor-rub which seemed to help a bit.
Good luck

Thanks for the thoughts guys. Feeling a bit better tonight and managed to get tomorrow off work too.
The doctor on Good Morning this morning agreed Panadol is just fine for us preggy folks the ones to avoid are Nurofen types cos they have other stuff in them (anti-inflammatories?).
You dont even think about the medicines you take until there is someone else to consider. I sort of thought homeopathic stuff would all be safe to use but there is a list a mile long of ones not safe in pregnancy. That list unfortunatly included basically everything in the muscle rub I used to use a lot (oil of cloves, jasmine, eucalyptus).
Anyway I think the best aid so far has been rest, Im lucky my kids are older and can do for themselves a bit. Thanks again

I dont know. Codeine cant be too bad my doc prescribed Panadeine which has it in a month or so ago knowing I was pregnant. But He wouldnt give me antiinflammatories.
Obviously I have bungled this ticker thing can someone tell me how to fix please. I so jealous of you people who have them I tried to get one too!

found out why Paris was grump;y.. a lovely rash started on thursday night, just a few spots. by last night her whole tummy and back were covered. still none on her arms and legs though. at first the doctor thought maybe chicken pox, but no sign of blisters, so thinking its either measles or something viral... this morning they have faded right away again, and are barely noticeable. am hoping its the viral option.. although i've had measles so hopefully i would be ok anyway. argh.. feels like all we are getting from daycare lately is germs.. she's only been there about 2 days in the last 2 weeks!

Hiya, me too just got a full blown cold and feeling real yuk. Prescribed myself today and tomorrow off work to try to recover...yeah right. Wanted an early nite last nite but my partner (bless his sox) played a new computer game till 1am (MEN!!) then phone rang twice early morning and just got back to sleep and the power company man knocked on my door. I was so annoyed that i ended up getting up. Now tonite I remember i told a friend i'd babysit for a few hours while they go out. Hopefully better luck tomorrow morning!
PS: Apparently "paracare" tablets are one of the best for us girls - even says on the box that they are fine for pregnant and breastfeeding women. Also, been getting a bit on indigestion and the pharmacist said that quickeze have got at least twice as much sodium in them than say, mylanta or gaviscon, so he never prescribes quickeze.

Yeah Becs, not only did he play till after 1am but he started getting tired and apparently the game was 'cheating' as the nite/morning went on!! COuldnt possibly have been him. Anyway, in the end i slept in another room and had a good nites sleep all stretched out (until morning when the interuptions started). Told him hes not to play that game anymore when i am here...think he agreed which is the weirdest thing!
PS Anyone have sky tv and watch Maternity Ward, 8.30pm on Discovery channel mondays - great show.

lol, Mike is sooo like that too! he stays up every night of the weekend, playing playstation and on the computer, he hires games and since they are only overnighters he wants to play them alllll day and alll night to get his money's worth. Then yep, the game starts "cheating" all the other drivers in car games get better starting positions, the tracks miraculously changes in the middle of a race "that corner wasn't there before!?" Even on the nights he goes to stockies he comes home and does the same. the other sunday morning he came to bed at 4am, forgot that it was his morning to tend to Paris - who woke at 7am. he was not a happy man.. lol. I also find that when he hasn't had enough sleep, everything the next day tends to be "boring" to him. what a whinger! lol. oh well. He will be well-equiped to do all the midnight changes etc on the weekends once this one is born! lolol.. betcha he won't wanna stay up late then!

City of Angels always makes me cry so dont know why i put myself thru it again last nite! I did start crying at 2 parts in particular and although my man wouldnt really care, i pretended i wasnt crying and blamed my sniffly nose etc on my cold! What a dick. Love Nicholas Cage in it - great actor. Happy to report that the stupid war game on the pc that i banned while i am home, hasnt been played since. Quite surprised about that actually but not complaining!

lol, yep i am a stock-car widow for 6 months of the year as mike crews for his dad, and travels all over the country to meetings. sundays are motor-sport on tv day, lol. but we fit in all the good stuff into our weekends as well, the mornings are just nice and full. on sunday afternoons mike laxes in front of the telly, paris goes for a nap, and i have "me" time, so it's sorta nice to end the weekend that way. now he's been offered a spot to co-drive for a jet-sprint boat next year.. sounds so kewl, but it worries me a bit with the safety, as well as the fact that he will travel with that as well as speedway, which means i will be alone even more - and with a toddler and being preg as well as study.. we are going to be a very busy family indeed.
